Today we’d like to introduce you to Jas Jones.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been practicing yoga for like 4-5 years. Early in the pandemic, my friend Nia wanted to go to the park to do Yoga. When we got there, she was like, “oh I was thinking you can lead us.” I had never “instructed” a yoga session before but I did! She told me how much of a vibe it was & how much she enjoyed it. I enrolled in a yoga teacher training program and started teaching free classes at the park to help me get used to instructing. From there, people wanted to work one on one, so I started doing that too. Before I knew it, I basically had a full blown yoga business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road! I’ve never owned a business before, so figuring out the “business” side of it was a little difficult at first! Once I got help with that, the next obstacle was balancing time for clients, my day job, & my personal practice. I’m still adjusting where I need to, but I’m in a much better place than when I first started!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a yoga instructor, I specialize in beginner yoga as well yoga for flexibility, what I call “stretch yoga”. Sessions to relieve tight hips/hamstrings and flexibility training are among the most common types of requests I receive. I’m known for taking traditional yoga flow, & adding a little spin on it to make it a vibe. The flow is different, the music is different, it’s really a whole different vibe. In a session with me, you’ll break a sweat, get a good stretch, have fun, get some positive affirmations/encouragement/motivation & of course a nice relaxing meditation. It’s a well-rounded situation for sure.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I’ve been in Houston for about 2.5 years and there isn’t anything I don’t like! I love Houston!
