Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Turner.
Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been drawn to creative & visual art; especially the camera. Growing up one of my favorite things to do was watch music videos; 106th&Park, Big Tiggers the basement, MTVJams, etc. I couldn’t wait to get home to see who had dropped the hottest visual to the latest music! When Aaliyah dropped the visual for ‘Rock the Boat’ awww man that underwater scene where she’s floating towards the camera.. GAME CHANGER! I fell in love! Hype Williams ain’t have to go off like that! From there, I grew this fascination with taking pictures/video recordings of people, places and things. Whether it be flowers, insects, cars, whatever. What started off as a hobby turned into passion fairly quickly; especially once I got my first Kodak 35mm disposable camera, lol. From there, I literally would pick up any and every camera I could get my hands on and figure how to shoot with it. Now here I am, a few thousand dollars in equipment later, chasing my now dream ;of being a photographer/videographer. Ultimately, I’d like to go on tour with Beyoncé or Chris brown! …so uh, Bey, BREEZY; if you’re reading by chance, HOLLA AT YA GIRL!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s actually been everything BUT a smooth road. Some of the main struggles that I still deal with today are: making time to create new content, increasing revenue to elevate said content, networking, finding like minded individuals with the same passion, on top of balancing that entrepreneurial/9-5 life. With that being said, the biggest challenge is making a name for yourself while simultaneously understanding that not everyone you know will support you. How do I gain more traction to potentially gain new clientele? How can I really elevate my brand and take it to the next level? For now I’ll continue learning new things, staying true to myself and really perfecting my craft. Everything will eventually align..ya know?
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
On top of being a photographer/videographer, I also have my own YouTube channel named ‘JAYETEEE TV’ (feel free to subscribe!!) Currently going through some reconstruction but usually I’d post a lot of original content there whether it be videos I shot or pictures I’ve taken, vlogs, etc. I love all aspects of the camera whether I’m the subject or actually creating the magic behind the lens. Outside of taking pictures, I also sell SeaMoss! SeaMoss is exactly what it sounds like; a superfood from the ocean that contains 92/102 of the minerals our bodies are naturally composed of. It has great health benefits such as support for your mental and emotional health, a healthy immune system, reduces phlegm, and even improves libido! Other than that I’m most known for my positive, down to earth, chill personality. I love to laugh, have a good time, eat good and look even better doing it, lol. I’m most proud of my own resilience! I try not to have too many bad days or be sad for too long. This journey hasn’t been no easy feat but I refuse to give up. After all, the beauty is in the journey; not the destination, right? What sets me apart from others is my self-confidence. You can only witness this wave once in a lifetime, IYKYK. I’m a whole experience.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Are you kidding? It’s the greatest city on earth! The thing I love the most about Houston is its diversity and inclusion.
A culture everyone wants to be apart of. The city plays such a big role in HipHop, fashion, etc. So many different perspectives, vibes, and lifestyles all within one big melting pot.. who wouldn’t wanna be from the H?! You can be WHATEVER or WHOEVER you want here..
A gift and a curse, actually. The thing I like least about the city is how ‘cliqued up’ it can get. Makes it difficult to tell who’s really genuine and who’s just looking for a come up. It’s hard to penetrate certain groups of creatives, movers and shakers, & even ‘insta celebrities’ if no one knows who you are. There’s like a secret Society within all of this and if you don’t know the password you can’t get access. “No ticket, No skates!”
