Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Woodcock.
Hi Jason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been in the rental business practically my whole life—it runs deep in my family. My grandfather owned a rental company, and I spent much of my early years immersed in that world. From a young age, I learned that the rental business is more than just equipment—it’s about people, relationships, and reliability.
After high school, I joined the world’s largest generator rental company and worked there for five years in various roles. That time gave me a solid foundation in operations, logistics, and customer service on a national scale. Later, I was recruited by one of the world’s largest air compressor rental companies to help launch a new location in Beaumont, Texas. That opportunity allowed me to build something from the ground up while learning how to manage growth, scale efficiently, and create customer loyalty in a competitive market.
Now based in the Houston area, 2025 marks my 30th year in the rental industry. Every lesson learned along the way—from building logistics pipelines to troubleshooting customer issues in real time—has gone directly into the foundation of Leadfoot Rentals.
Leadfoot began after I noticed a gap in the trailer market—specifically in availability, flexibility, and customer service. Many people needing trailers—whether for livestock, equipment, or weekend projects—struggled with inconsistent service and limited options. I did extensive market research and spent about six months preparing a business model that could scale without compromising service. In October 2024, I officially launched Leadfoot Rentals, and by November, our first trailer was on the road.
What sets Leadfoot apart is our strategy: provide the feel of a professional, well-oiled corporate operation while maintaining the heart of a small, service-focused business. My goal was to make every customer feel like they were our only customer—and that meant investing in technology to back that experience.
Using automation and AI, I’ve created systems that give customers fast, consistent service around the clock. From automated scheduling and payment processing to instant booking confirmations and post-usage follow-ups, every step of the Leadfoot experience is designed to be seamless and user-friendly. These tools allow us to operate with the precision of a large team—while keeping overhead lean and focused. It’s not just about convenience; it’s about showing customers that their time and needs matter.
The rental industry is, at its core, a relationship business. And I’ve built Leadfoot to reflect that—offering clean, dependable trailers; clear, honest communication; and service that shows up when it matters most. With locations in Baytown and Cuero, we proudly serve ranchers, contractors, weekend warriors, and families across Texas.
Leadfoot Rentals isn’t just about trailers—it’s about bringing big-league service to the local level, backed by experience, technology, and a commitment to treating people right.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting Leadfoot Rentals has been one of the most rewarding and demanding journeys of my life—but it hasn’t been without its challenges.
Time has been my biggest obstacle. I’m still working full-time for a global rental corporation, where I lead operations and travel regularly. Balancing that with building a new business from scratch has meant long days, late nights, and a lot of weekend hours. But when you’re passionate about something, you find the time. Leadfoot was built in the margins—between meetings, late at night, and early in the morning.
Marketing was a steep learning curve. It’s easy to throw money at ads and get no return if you don’t have a clear strategy. In the beginning, I invested heavily in various platforms, trying to figure out what worked. There were plenty of missteps, and I learned quickly that simply boosting a post doesn’t mean bookings will follow. After a few months of testing, tracking, and analyzing, I refined the strategy and became laser-focused on where every dollar goes. Now, every ad is intentional, targeted, and tied to real metrics—not guesswork.
Supplier issues were another unexpected challenge. In the early days, I made trailer availability promises based on supplier delivery dates—only to be left hanging. That cost me several rentals and, more importantly, the customer experience I work hard to protect. It was frustrating, but it also taught me an important lesson: not every supplier who wants your business is willing to do what it takes to keep it. Since then, I’ve built stronger, more reliable supplier relationships with partners who understand the standard I expect.
Competition is always part of the equation. In a market like Texas, you’re always going to be competing for customers—but I see that as a healthy pressure. It keeps me sharp and focused on delivering value. I’m not trying to be the cheapest trailer provider out there, and I make no apologies for that. I’ve invested in high-quality trailers that are built for continuous use, not just occasional weekend hauling. I believe the quality of your equipment reflects your brand, and I want my customers to feel the difference from the moment they hook up to a Leadfoot trailer.
These challenges have shaped how I run the business today. They’ve made me more disciplined, more customer-focused, and more committed to delivering a premium experience that’s consistent, reliable, and professional.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in operations, logistics, and fleet management within the industrial rental space—a field I’ve been immersed in for 30 years. In my current role, I oversee fleet strategy, procurement, and operational execution for a large-scale organization across multiple countries. My work has always centered on performance improvement, customer satisfaction, and building scalable, sustainable systems that drive long-term results.
Over the years, I’ve led high-performing teams, implemented quality and safety programs, standardized technical training, and helped roll out remote monitoring technology to streamline operations. I’m known for being a hands-on leader who bridges the gap between strategy and execution—someone who understands both the big picture and the technical details that make it work on the ground.
What I’m most proud of is channeling that depth of experience into building my own business, Leadfoot Rentals. I designed Leadfoot to operate with the polish and precision of a large corporation, but with the accessibility and customer care of a small business.
What sets me apart is my ability to combine structure, technology, and personal service. I’ve implemented automation and AI tools at Leadfoot to create a seamless customer journey—from booking to trailer handoff. Every system is built with the customer in mind, ensuring fast response times, dependable scheduling, and smooth communication. At the same time, I remain personally involved, treating every customer like they’re my only one.
That balance—between enterprise-level professionalism and small-town attention to detail—is what defines my approach to business, and it’s what continues to drive Leadfoot forward.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality behind my success has been discipline—the commitment to show up every day, stay consistent, and keep pushing forward, even when the results take time. Whether managing large-scale operations or building Leadfoot Rentals from the ground up, discipline has been my foundation. It’s what allows me to deliver a high standard of service, uphold strong business ethics, and remain focused on long-term goals even when short-term challenges arise.
But success doesn’t rely on one trait alone. Leadership has also played a critical role—both in my corporate career and in Leadfoot. I’ve led diverse teams across regions, mentored staff, and built cultures around accountability, performance, and trust. Those experiences shaped the way I interact with customers and partners today—with clarity, purpose, and follow-through.
Adaptability has been equally important. The rental industry moves fast, and whether it’s adjusting to changing market conditions, supplier delays, or evolving customer expectations, I’ve learned to stay flexible and responsive without compromising on quality.
And finally, problem-solving is at the core of everything I do. From streamlining operations to resolving customer issues on short notice, I approach every situation with a solution-first mindset. I don’t dwell on setbacks—I look for ways to learn from them and come back stronger.
When you combine discipline with strong leadership, adaptability, and the ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently, you create a business that people can count on. That’s the standard I hold myself to every day—and the mindset that’s helped Leadfoot grow.
