Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah Kelly.
Hi Jeremiah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Becoming a photographer has always been a long-time goal of mine. I remember the first time my mom bought me my very first camera. It was a canon point shooting camera. I was 13 years old at the time, and I did not know much about cameras. I was confused but yet intrigued. The same very camera that appeared complex to most did not appear complex to me. It was almost as if it was love at first sight. The feeling it gave me was indescribable. With lots of emotions running through my mind, all I could do was express immense joy and infinite gratitude to my mother for gifting me such a beautiful gift. I immediately began taking pictures. I would take as little as five pictures per day. Most of my pictures consisted of rocks, flowers, and sometimes even people. But as I grew older, I began to question my work and eventually allowed outside opinions to cloud my judgment when it came to my art. My social anxiety didn’t make it any better. If anything, it magnified the severity of other people’s projections about me even more. I eventually decided to stop taking pictures altogether.
Looking back at it now, that was very silly of me. I didn’t realize how much time I had invested on silly opinions until I got much older. As I transitioned into college, I got a job and began making decent money. I hated the job, but the pay was pretty nice. I guess you can say I was very comfortable. But I was still not satisfied. Something was missing. I just didn’t know what it was, so I began traveling. During my trips, I started capturing still photos of what I saw along the way on my iPhone camera. The pictures were decent, as a matter of fact, they were not bad at all. But me being me, I was still self-conscious and overall unsure about sharing my content with the public. I instead decided to take that time to do more research of my own. That’s when I ran into this YouTuber named Peter Mckinnon. He honestly reminded me of why I even started my journey into photography to begin with. So in 2019, I decided to buy my first professional camera. A Sony A7iii. I began booking clients, and fast forward to now, I created J.Kelly Visuals and have been blessed ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has honestly been a blessing. It took some time to get started but I’m overall very content with the outcome. I did face a few struggles along the way, but my mindset never changed when it was hit with adversity. My hunger and crave for success gave me all the fuel that I needed to push myself even harder. Once I did that, everything fell into place. I began to take myself and my work more serious and really just focused on the bigger picture. My art. Once people realized I was serious about my craft, people started taking me more seriously.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most proud of doing what I do best, creating. Being able to turn what used to be a passion of mine into a successful business is a huge blessing, which I sometimes don’t credit myself enough for it. With my work, I’ve learned to help others gain their confidence back and turn their visions into their reality, and that’s what I love most about my job.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very shy kid. I was the quiet kid who spent most of their time watching anime and playing video games. However, as I got older, I grew out of my shell. I became more sociable and began interacting with people who shared the same interests as me. I guess you can say I’m much of an introvert just as much as I am an extrovert. People call it the best both worlds because I love my peace and also enjoy the company of friends. That’s a good balance to say the least, but once my social meter runs out, that’s it, I’m done for the day. Nevertheless, my interests haven’t changed much from when I was a kid, and that’s what I love about myself the most. I try to keep myself as authentic as possible because it keeps me grounded and reminds me of who I am.
