Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Harris.
Hi Jesse, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a retired Army veteran after serving 17 years in the military. Storytelling and video editing had always been a passion of mine, but after retiring from the Army, I decided to fully pursue it professionally. I enrolled at Full Sail University to strengthen my skills and earn professional credentials in filmmaking and cinematography.
During my time at Full Sail, I had the opportunity to intern with Houston Boomerangs, Houston’s Top photography and media company that showcases all of the celebrities and hottest events. Where I worked as both a video editor and cinematographer. That experience helped me grow creatively, expand my client base, and gain real-world industry experience.
After graduating from Full Sail University in 2025, while simultaneously starting my on film company. J. Harris Films in June 2024. I continued to build my portfolio with a focus on cinematic storytelling, visual creativity, and producing meaningful content. Today, my goal is to create films and media projects that connect with audiences on a deeper level while continuing to grow as a filmmaker and entrepreneur.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were times when I questioned whether I should continue, especially while trying to build a consistent client base and establish myself in a competitive industry. Like many creatives and entrepreneurs, there were moments of uncertainty, frustration, and wanting to quit.
What kept me going was my passion for creating. I noticed that every time I picked up the camera and stayed consistent—whether I was shooting unpaid passion projects or paid client work—new opportunities would begin to appear. The more content I created, the more connections, clients, and projects seemed to come my way. That taught me the importance of consistency, faith in the process, and continuing to pursue what I genuinely love, even during difficult periods.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in cinematography and visual storytelling, with a strong focus on creating cinematic content that connects emotionally with audiences. My style is known for combining close-up, medium, and wide storytelling shots to create visuals that feel immersive and meaningful rather than just visually appealing. Every project I work on is approached with the mindset of telling a story and capturing authentic emotion.
One of the accomplishments I’m most proud of is having one of my videos featured as part of Texas State legislation connected to a Senate bill focused on requirements for younger adults obtaining their driver’s licenses. Seeing my work contribute to something with real public impact was a major milestone for me.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend cinematic techniques with genuine storytelling. My background, discipline, and life experience allow me to connect with people in a unique way and bring emotion, purpose, and authenticity into every project I create.
How do you define success?
I would define success as being able to live comfortably both financially and emotionally while genuinely enjoying what you do in life. To me, success means being able to support your family, provide stability, and not constantly struggle or live under pressure. It’s also about having the freedom to experience life, travel, and move through the world without always feeling rushed or overwhelmed by time. True success is finding peace, happiness, and balance while remaining patient and grateful throughout the journey.
