Daily Inspiration: Meet Jessica Mercier

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Mercier.

Jessica Mercier

Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Once upon a time, I quit art school. Call it a creative crossroads at 22, where imposter syndrome loomed large, whispering, “Why chase dreams that seem galaxies away?” So, I hung up my artist’s hat, thinking gallery artist life in a big city wasn’t in the stars.

But creativity, like a true north, finds its way back. It led me from the vibrant chaos of restaurant kitchens and pastry making—where I mixed flavors instead of paints—back to the drawing board. This detour wasn’t a detour, after all. It was my path, rich and varied, teaching me resilience, patience, and the art of making someone’s day, one dish, one design at a time.

Moving to Texas served as a blank slate. A vinyl cutter became my brush, t-shirts and logos, my canvas. Until one day, someone asked, “Do you do logos?” That question was pivotal. Yes, I did logos. But more than that, I began to build brands, stories, and identities.

JMM Artist/Designer wasn’t born from a sudden epiphany but from a journey of self-discovery, piecing together the fragments of my past—artist, bartender, chef, mom—into a mosaic where each piece found its place. It’s been a path of embracing my multifaceted identity, not just as a designer but as someone who sees the world in hues others might miss.

Today, JMM Artist/Designer stands as a testament to this journey. We’re a boutique agency helping passionate entrepreneurs. We’re here to do more than design; we’re here to unearth the soul of your brand, to make it resonate, to make it truly yours.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a business isn’t for the faint of heart. Most of my struggles came from the inside of myself. Learning to trust myself. Pushing myself to understand my highly creative brain and how it works. Putting my ego and sensitivity aside and learning to embrace feedback. I often joke about the journey that I have been on to build my business, “Who thought it was a good idea to give ME a business?”

Learning the back end of processes, bookkeeping, networking, and client flow have all been pivotal to my path. As someone with aspects of a neurodivergent brain, some of these things haven’t come naturally to me. Schedules, staying on task, and calendar integrity are all things that I struggle with when in the middle of a creative wormhole. I have moments of complete hyperfocus, where I can lose hours of time diving deep into a project.

Learning how to harness these creative moments for the positive outcome that is needed. What I have learned is that learning how to follow the wave of creativity is necessary to my process and that guidelines are necessary for me. Asking for help and having a support system around me has been a large part of my success as well.

As a designer, I focus on crafting functional and visually appealing designs that communicate a brand’s message effectively across various mediums. One of my proudest accomplishments is witnessing the transformative impact my work has on my clients’ businesses. Seeing a brand evolve from a concept to a fully realized identity that attracts and engages customers is incredibly rewarding.

My approach is defined by four key principles: Communication, Collaboration, Intuition, and Strategy. I prioritize open and transparent communication with my clients, ensuring that their needs and visions are understood and incorporated into the project.

Collaboration is at the heart of my process; I believe the best results come from working closely with clients and truly letting their voices shine. Intuition plays a crucial role as well, allowing me to make creative decisions that are both inspired and informed. Finally, strategy is the backbone of my work. Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
In my work, I don’t rely on luck but on trusting the process and learning at every step. I focus on creating visually compelling and strategically sound brands by being patient, open to new ideas, and adaptable to challenges.

Each project teaches me something new, and this continuous learning helps me bring fresh and effective solutions to my clients. My dedication to this approach, combined with a genuine passion for helping businesses succeed, sets me apart.
