Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Sellers.
Jonathan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a knack for Fashion. Growing up in NYC, I took an interest to certain styles and fashion statements as a child. Ironically, I never in a million years thought I’d be starting my own clothing/lifestyle brand. The 90’s play a huge part of my interest and love for fashion. Seeing brands from the likes of Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Nautica, Coogi, Vanson…etc. Just to name a few of my favorites as a kid from New York City. Going to school as a kid, it seemed like every day was a fashion show. Now while I wasn’t able to always get the things I desired, I always paid close attention to the other kids with all the new pieces and sneakers. The love never left. As I grew older, I always enjoyed creatively putting outfits together and became a sneaker connoisseur. While in Atlanta in 2016, the idea to create my brand, “EnQuor” (pronounced Encore), came to me. I did research and learned on my own for about 2 years before officially launching in October 2018. 5yrs later, the brand has released countless pieces from clothing to home pieces. Now in Houston, TX, just pushing forward to continue to grow the brand to new heights.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been far from a smooth road. Just like any other business, starting something from scratch, there are lots of trial and error while making clothes. You go through issues from sourcing the right fabrics, manufacturers, graphic designers to things like meeting deadlines, fiscal goals, and other random mishaps that go along with running a business. It can be more frustrating doing everything yourself. Wearing all the hats in the operation can be very trying at times. Finding the right people that fit your brand is very important, and I don’t think that is something that should be compromised.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a fashion designer. I specialize in cut and sew pieces from my brand EnQuor. I’m pretty much known for being a good Dad, my love for sneakers, fashion, fragrances, traveling, and good vibes and aesthetics. I’m proud of being consistent and someone that can be counted on. I think what sets me apart from others is my creativity, ambition my desire, and willingness to always learn
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t say I’ve experienced luck, whether good or bad. I most definitely have been blessed to be able to experience certain things. From Parenthood to traveling, seeing different parts of the World and even being given certain opportunities. I’m a huge believer in karma and energy. Whatever you put out in the Universe will always come back, good or bad.
