Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonee Love
Hi Jonee , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started SeasonedbyJo a few years ago when I realized I had a true passion for cooking. I work a full-time job but cooking truly brings me joy. I grew up watching my Mother, Grandmothers and Aunts in the kitchen who really taught me what I know today. I started out by posting recipes/videos on my personal social media account but realized I was driving a lot of engagement and figured “why not start a cooking page?”, which led me to “SeasonedbyJo.” During covid, I received a huge following as everyone was locked up in the house and had no choice but to cook, lol. I engaged with my audience by posting recipes, hosting virtual cooking classes, IG live, creating recipes, quick tips, etc. I was also featured in “top digital creators” to follow which boosted my presence even more. I now have expanded my audience to not only cooking but overall wellness as I recently lost 30 pounds and have shared this journey and inspired so many people that follow me. I have only been living in the Houston area for 2 years and look forward to getting my brand out in the open into the Houston community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. When I started SeasonedbyJo back in 2019, I was very passionate about it and continued to thrive in my purpose. However, my family and I went through a terrible tragedy in 2022 which really caused me to take a step back. I was no longer passionate about posting on social media, engaging with my audience and even lost my passion for cooking for quite some time. My Aunt, who is the main reason I became so passionate about cooking, was unfortunately part of that tragedy. She was the one who brought everyone together in our family and so much joy by hosting Sunday dinners where she would show off her skills and passion for cooking. I miss her every day. However, I realized, she would want me to continue on with my brand. I was then able to refocus and dive back into what I love.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As for my full-time job as a Professional, I have been working in recruiting for almost 13 years. I’ve worked in Talent Acquisition at all levels between Campus, Experienced Professionals and Executive level. In my role today, I am a Director for an Executive Search firm. We help C suite level executives find their next career move. I’m most proud of being able to find someone their dream opportunity. I love people and have always had a strong suit for connecting with individuals in my network. I think what sets me apart from others is the fact that I am a full time working professional but also a creative on the side that manages a brand “SeasonedbyJo.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Instead of “luck” I’d say God has truly been in my favor in my life and business. I truly feel blessed to be where I am today, regardless of what I’ve been through. If I had to think of a time where “bad luck” played a role, you could say when I was laid off from my full-time job almost 2 years ago. To me, it wasn’t bad luck, it was a blessing in disguise. It allowed me to get the push I needed in order to leave a job I was unhappy in and an environment that was toxic. It also allowed me to focus in on my personal brand and lock in on becoming a content creator. It also set me up for the job I am in today. Had I not gotten laid off, this opportunity would have never come across my plate.
