Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Washington.
Joshua, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Beginning my journey as an overweight child, I set out to overcome personal challenges through my music. I got inspired by seeing other big artists like Biggie Smalls, Big Pun, and around the time Texas music was gaining attention, I instantly love the wave of other artist like Big Moe, Hawk, Fat pat, pokey, etc. like being young and seeing guys your size spitting lyrics and shining I knew I wanted that. I knew I could do it too. So, I started rapping in school, but I also had to focus on graduating high school. Didn’t grow up with a silver spoon, so I had to use the money I made on my own to put a project together the right way and not just recording to say I did something. Gaining attention from my schoolmates in college, I released my first mixtape in 2013, “iGoLive.” Years later, I gained larger recognition and release my first solo album, “Southern Soul,” in June 2021. The major gap come from growing and gaining experience so I can put through music. I dropped a couple of singles “Mississippi River” was/ is my biggest hit 2017, and did shows in between, but I knew when it came to doing an album, I had to put my soul into it. Finding the right engineer also played a part, couldn’t find a legitimate one for ME. My style of music ain’t drill or trap, and that’s what most of my city had until I found the right group of people with similar taste. I locked in with Shell Enns and Crown Studios, and been my engineer since. I also come from a good family raised by my grandmother, father wasn’t there didn’t actually meet him til years later in my mid 20’s, mom still around I do love the support she gives, also from my two sisters. In 2018 I got diagnosed with diabetes; honestly, that pushed me to go harder I hate it, but it will not slow me down. When it comes to Houston, I have friends that support me really well. I love the promoting they do for me while I’m in Jackson, Mississippi.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Diagnosed with diabetes in 2018 was in ICU 4 days getting my body back right
Growing up in school was picked on for my weight until I started rapping at lunch tables that build my confidence
Didn’t know about my real dad until I was like 24 years old, and at 30, he passed away
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Like I really love music it helps me escape I started loving r&b before anything when I was real young and could have sing lol. So, I say being the chubby kid that could sing them later on rap, I gained attention because people gone see you physically before really getting to know you, so I give them something to remember, and that’s through music
What are your plans for the future?
I plan on putting out 2 more albums before I retire from it. Going to focus on building my own label finding artists that will join. I started B.I.G.G Music Group back in 2021 going to put it to effect soon
