Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Czarnecki.
Hi Katelyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been a cooking enthusiast. I can remember cooking lemon meringue pies with my grandpa growing up. I have been passionate about creating even when it wasn’t easy. I once braided bread in my dorm room.
I transitioned out of education in 2019 and began cooking like mad all over again. I knew that starting a business would make my art far more sustainable. I have since started other full time jobs, (working in medical research in the Texas medical center and now back in education teaching upper level math) but I have continued on as the Texan Flourist. It’s so magical to be involved in so many events and celebrations. Because of it, I feel more connected to the community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I know starting your own business would be difficult but I could not picture it until I was here. There is so much to keep track of from accounting, supply ordering, customers, baking and managing my online presence. It’s a lot of hard work. Just like in life, there are moments when I am human and can’t do it all. This process has taught me a lot about forgiveness and appreciating progress over perfection.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love helping make special moments more special. I am so proud of designing a set that makes a customer smile. Custom cookies are a labor of love; my heart and soul goes into every set. And when my customers ask me to help them celebrate, I feel very honored. My favorite sets to do are for baby showers. They are incredibly cute.
I am most proud of when I complete a custom order that is exactly what my customer envisioned (with my own art style shining through).
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned that people crave joy and togetherness. For a variety of reasons, my production decreased last year but people wanted to celebrate life still. People still wanted cookies. I learned that community is so so important.
The baking community has always been an incredible support but during covid, they were an incredible source of joy for me.
