Daily Inspiration: Meet Kelsey Gautier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Gautier.

Hi Kelsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a young kid I always had an eye for creativity. I can vividly remember drawing cartoons characters, sketching designs, and playing fashion games on my Nintendo DSI. When I was around 12 years old, I began taking an interest in modeling. I had an older cousin who modeled, and she introduced me to a photographer by the name of Ronnie Savoie. He shot my very first professional photoshoot for free. From there my parents continued to pour into me and foster my craft. My mom would take me to modeling classes and my dad let me tag along working background on different film sets. All of this was happening while I was just a pre-teen. I didn’t know at that time that I would be planting seeds for my future career in years to come. Fast forward after High School and studying at Southern University for a few years, I signed a modeling contract in my hometown I never looked back. I was finally pursuing something that made me happy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t lie… The journey has been an absolute roller coaster, but that the beauty of it. There has been many moments throughout my career where I doubted myself. I come from a small town where there isn’t always a lot of oppurtunities, especially in fashion! A big obstacle that I had to overcome was accepting that everyone’s journey is different. There were a lot of times where I felt behind or that I Should’ve been further along,, but I have a lot more gratitude these days. There was a lot of mental preparation that I needed that I wouldn’t have understood when I was younger. I believe that God took me the long route to build up my confidence and mental stamina. Things might not happen right when you want them to, but when the time is right it’ll happen.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multifaceted creative being. I don’t like to put myself in a box because I believe I can do it all! Right now my focus is on modeling, but I’m also a creative director, actress, and casting director. I also paint in my spare time. I’m fortunate to have graced international runways. I have published work in Vogue, Elle, and GQ magazine. I also have a featured role in a movie that’s coming out soon.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the industry is moving towards a really interesting intersection between fashion, technology, and personal identity. AI is changing the way a lot of us create, but I think that will make authenticity and individuality even more valuable. People with a unique perspective will stand out. I want to eventually use my art to tell stories. I think we need it more than ever right now.
