Today we’d like to introduce you to Laila Wilson.
Laila, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Laila Simone, and I am the CEO of Mind Of Simone. I have been working with various art forms that include, photography, cinematography and of course, mixed media art pieces. The brand of Mind Of Simone was more of an epiphany inspired by my first exhibition I hosted at thirteen years old. This exhibition featured fifteen original multimedia pieces that I created, thus inspiring me to start this business. My ultimate goal is to let art flow through me, and create pieces that are authentic, visually stunning, and emotionally impactful. Though I have a dream of learning various art forms, as I stated previously, I aspire to develop my drawing skills. I believe that art should not have a time limit or time frame, it should simply flow from within.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say that there has definitely been challenges along the way. In my opinion, because I am a creative, I am drawn to every aspect of creativity that sparks my interest and it gets difficult navigating my passions and knowing which passion to follow and when. I’ve learned that my art style is not specific, I love to branch out and experiment. I also learned that sometimes if you want an income of money to flow, you have to ask yourself, will your art piece be suitable for the owner’s home. Sometimes yes, sometimes no, personally, I gain from simply putting my artwork out there, and what comes will come. I also had to grow to realize that I am a multi-dimensional artist and I don’t just have to create art in one way. Art is wide and universal.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am currently a junior in high school with a visual arts concentration. I am a contributing member of my Art Club and various extracurricular activities that allow me to enhance my creative abilities. My sophomore year, I competed in a V.A.S.E. competition where I received a silver medal, and a perfect score in my art category. On the personal side, I am proud of every art piece that I have put forth for the world to view. It takes guts to put a piece of yourself into the world, so I am very proud of that. My creative abilities and the way I see the world set me apart from others, especially in my generation. I am often misunderstood and isolated, but I’ve learned that it is my gift. I love the simple things. I love nature and I love seeing the world in color. I have grown to love how my mind operates and I now value that it downloads things in a different way.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say consistency and authenticity. Failure is inevitable, but I would rather fail forward, and authentically. And the biggest difference between success and failure is consistency. Most will stop after failing, the successful adjust and keep going.
