Daily Inspiration: Meet Lana Dimassi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lana Dimassi.

Hi Lana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my business in high school. As a graphic design student and a passion for starting little businesses growing up, I knew I wanted to start something serious and big. I started on Instagram just posting my art as @dancingbananagirldesign, then started turning my art into products. Three years later, I changed my business name to Banana Crush and have worked hard to produce what my business is today. I also never imagined I would have 50K followers, it’s crazy. I owe it to my friends and family for encouraging me to go after my dream!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. There were times where I was lost and didn’t really know my purpose for this brand. And then there were other times where I was so focused on my full time job, it was hard to balance the two.

Balancing a small business and life can be difficult! Growth doesn’t happen overnight so it requires a lot of patience.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a creator on Instagram. I post motivation art and lifestyle photos. I use my art to encourage and motivate people all around the world. I would say my art itself is heavy on being abstract, colorful, and I tend to use a lot of fun patterns.

I am most proud of where I am today. Finding your style as an artist can be very difficult. I’m proud for finding out what I am most drawn to and sticking with it even though it’s different.

What sets me apart from others in my opinion is how I not only put a lot of time in the artwork, but also the quote. I take the time to find or make up quotes that will really connect with someone. It’s important for me to encourage at least one person out there. I’m a person who also loves to be there for people! I respond to as many DMs as possible because I want people to know that I am there for them.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have definitely learned a lot from COVID. One thing being how to have a small business during a pandemic. I had to brainstorm different ways to keep my brand out there and store active. One of those ways was selling masks and another was selling shirts where a percentage of the proceeds went to making masks for nurses. I am thankful for where I am today, but it was definitely a scary thing to go through at the beginning.
