Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Sharp.
Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Before entering the real estate industry, I spent 15 years as an elementary school teacher. While I loved teaching, I eventually reached a point in my career where I felt ready for a new challenge and wanted to explore a different way to help and educate people. I decided to pursue my real estate license and begin a new chapter in my career. Just months into the business, I joined the Monica Foster Team, and it was one of the best professional decisions I’ve made. Real estate has given me the opportunity to continue doing what I love – helping people, educating them throughout the process, and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first got into real estate, my first brokerage didn’t provide the level of support and training that I really needed. I’m a very hands-on person, so having guidance and being able to learn from others is really important to me. Once I made the decision to switch brokerages and joined my team, everything changed. I had so much more support, training, and access to people who were willing to help me grow. In the beginning, I was getting leads that maybe weren’t as desirable to some of the more experienced agents, but I treated every single lead like it was my most important opportunity. Those early experiences were incredibly valuable. By the end of my first year, I had closed 17 sales and 8 rentals. I was so proud of what I had accomplished.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I truly love being in the real estate business! Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of properties, including land, investment properties, single-family homes, condos, townhomes, and rental properties. I’ve also dabbled a little in commercial real estate, but I’ve found that residential real estate is where my passion is. One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing my business grow year after year, whether that’s through the number of transactions, sales volume, or both. What I feel really sets me apart is that I genuinely care about the “why” behind my client’s decisions. For me, it’s never just about the commission. I want to understand what my clients are trying to accomplish and help them reach that goal. I’ve even had the privilege of building lifelong friendships with some of my clients, which means so much to me. I also get fulfillment from educating my clients throughout the process and using my experience, knowledge, and problem-solving skills to help navigate challenges when they come up. At the end of the day, I want my clients to feel informed, confident, and truly cared for throughout their real estate journey.
How do you think about happiness?
My boys- my husband and two sons- are what make me happiest because they’re the closest and most meaningful relationships in my life. They’ve seen me at my best and at my worst, and they continue to love and support me. I feel exactly the same way about them. They’re my greatest blessings.
