Daily Inspiration: Meet Lauren Sander

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Sander.

Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have dreamt of working with animals as a career for as long as I could remember. I have been training, teaching and caring for our family dogs since I was about 6 years old. Upon graduating Texas A&M (WHOOP), I found myself pursuing other careers and this dream never faded. I began competing with my Labrador Retrievers as a hobby, training obedience dogs for friends and co-workers and watching their pups while they were away for a few summers. I was blessed the opportunity to put my dreams into action by opening The Kennels at Gum Gully with the support of my amazing husband and family. I love serving Crosby, TX and it’s surrounding areas with top-notch dog care and services. What started out as 26 kennels I mostly self managed has grown into 39 kennels and an incredible team of 8 ladies that help me insure every dog gets treated like family. We eat, sleep and breathe dogs around here. When I am not in the kennel, I am usually competing with my Labradors or showing my American Bully’s!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have been so blessed and truly feel when Jesus opens doors, and you put in the work- those doors fly off hinges. It has been from a business prospective a fairly smooth road. Our area desperately needed a home-away-from- home for family dogs. Learning to balance my life, work and personal responsibilities took a bit of time to grasp. Having a trustworthy team in place is invaluable.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We provide a safe, comfortable and enriching environment for family dogs while their owners are away. We offer daycare Monday-Friday as well as boarding daily. We have the ability and staff to accommodate most situations and love watching a nervous new dog turn into a happy and playful regular part of the family. I am the most proud of the care we provide to animals and that families can trust us to do everything in our power to provide great care for their dog. I love that we have indoor/outdoor runs and plenty of fenced in yards for dogs to play in. I am proud that we allow dogs to play, interact and just be dogs! Our environment, facility, protocols, staff and “at home” feel set us apart from others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am a huge believer that what you focus your thoughts on, and believe to be true about your life impact your day to day more than most want to believe. You determine your own “luck”. I encourage others to wake up daily, thank the Lord for the opportunity to life another day and tell themselves they are the luckiest person in the world. The impact may surprise you.
