Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan McErlean.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was younger, I would always watch Miami Ink and would draw as much as I could because I wanted to be a tattoo artist. When I lost my brother at a young age, that changed and decided to get into the medical field. I quickly figured out that I wanted to help people but not in that way. I was always drawn to art and eventually switched majors and went to the art institute for graphic and web designing. Something still felt like it was missing. I then got introduced to my mentor Juan at MAG Tattoo Studio and started my apprenticeship. I have been tattooing for a year now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I did an apprenticeship before MAG and was disrespected a lot and was not taken seriously. I almost gave up because of it. Being a female part of the LGBTQ community in a male dominant industry had definitely been difficult at times. That is why I am so thankful for the guys at MAG for being so welcoming and accepting. It’s like having a bunch of older brothers!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a tattoo artist. I am new to the industry. I have been tattooing for a year so far and am studying the American Traditional style. I try to grow from each appointment I have with the people that I meet. Whether that be lessons to learn about life, or tattooing in general. When you listen, you really do learn a lot.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the small-town feel of League City. I grew up here and love running into old friends. Now the traffic is a different story!
