Daily Inspiration: Meet Lori Elaine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Elaine.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been drawn to art and literature. A few of my earliest memories that brought me joy were drawing pictures for my parents and gazing at the illustrations of books, making up my own stories. All throughout grade school I was involved in the arts, and even more so in high school. I was lucky enough to have two wonderful art teachers whose involvement helped push me into projects I would never have imagined being in- installation art around the city and for Superbowl 38, The Art Car Ball/Parade (in which we won 1st place!), and placing 2nd for the Alvin Ailey Art Contest, with my piece gracing the cover of The Society for the Performing Arts magazine and it becoming part of the permanent collection of Texas Children’s Hospital. After high school, I dropped out of the art scene. It wasn’t until many years later and with much persistence from my sister, when I picked it back up. She literally bought me supplies and kept showing me different local art shows until eventually, I said yes. From there, my creativity was brought back to life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When you work towards your goals, there will always be setbacks along the way. Like that long break after high school I mentioned. When my sister kept pushing for me to get back into it, I was scared to put that pencil to paper just because it had been so long and I wasn’t prepared to find out if I still had it or not! I think that’s why I kept avoiding the matter altogether, I’m glad she didn’t give up on encouraging me to jump back in. I would say that my biggest struggle to date would be my procrastination, but I’m still working on that one.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work with a variety of mediums but my favorites are watercolors, acrylics and ink markers. My inspirations are video games, anime and geek culture. I think I’m best known for the details in my work, colorful illustrations, and my work with the female form,

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family and friends are my biggest support team out there. Without them, I wouldn’t have picked the paintbrush back up! I also have to give credit to my art teachers, starting all the way back to my middle school years: Ms. Justice introduced me to some of the great masters of art and really helped my interest in the arts grow, and Mr. Smith and Ms, Bass, the two teachers from high school I mentioned earlier, helped mold me and gave memorable experiences in this field.
