Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackaela Gray.
Hi Mackaela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Mack, a full time content creator based in Houston.I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, I grew up in Rochester, New York in a single mom household, where I watched my mom work incredibly hard to provide for us. Her resilience is what gave me the drive to work hard and never give up, and it’s a big part of why I do what I do today. I also worked two or three jobs at a time growing up because I knew I wanted more out of life. In 2020 I quit my job purely off faith to pursue content creation full time, with no savings and no backup plan, just trust that if I stayed consistent it would work out. In 2021 I moved to Houston with no plan, no savings, nothing, just faith that it was where I was supposed to be. It’s been six years now and I’ve never gone back to a traditional job nor moved back home. Along the way I’ve built content strategies that actually convert, worked with some really big brands, and grown a following of over 800K across Instagram and TikTok.
I’m also launching my own cosmetics brand, MCLA Beauty (My Christ Loves All Beauty), on August 7th, 2026, which stands for My Christ Loves All Beauty. It’s a vision God gave me years ago and I’m finally putting it out into the world. More recently my journey took a deeper turn when I walked away from drinking and partying, and from a 9 year lesbian relationship I was in, as we both are giving our lives to Christ. We’re still best friends today. Everything I do now is for Him, and my biggest goal these days is simply to make Him proud.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I went broke multiple times, got caught up with the wrong crowds doing the wrong things, and found myself backtracking more than once. I got caught up trying to keep up with the influencer lifestyle, and that just was not for me. I had cars repossessed. It was hard, genuinely hard. It’s also super scary to quit a job and depend on something that wasn’t even working yet, just trusting that it will work if you put all the hard work in. That risk is real and it’s scary. I still go through difficult times now, but because I have God on my side and I’m doing my best to walk in the right direction, it doesn’t feel as heavy as it used to, because I know He’s going to bring me through it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an entrepreneur. I create content for a living, and I recently started my cosmetics business, MCLA Beauty. I’m known for creating great content and inspirational content that helps other people, especially aspiring creators. I also mentor upcoming creators who need help strategizing and positioning themselves properly. What I’m most proud of is that I never gave up, even when times got hard, even when views were low and money was low and everything was low. I just never gave up, and that’s my biggest accomplishment. What sets me apart from others is that I’m authentically me. I don’t try to be like anybody else, no other creator. I just show up as myself every single day. Either you love it or you don’t, and if you don’t, bye.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for finding a good mentor is to look for proven results, and that doesn’t just mean nice cars or a nice house, because not everything you see is always theirs. Look at what they’ve actually done. Can they show you they’re capable of helping you win too? Also make sure they share your values and morals, that they have integrity, that they’re kind, and that they’re actually called to mentor and not just doing it for the money.
