Daily Inspiration: Meet Madiha Q

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madiha Q.

Hi Madiha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started 12 years ago, I met my wonderful husband and before we got married he asked “what do you really want to do (with work)?” He knew I was unhappy doing what I was doing so I told him “I’ve always enjoyed doing hair and makeup”. Once we got married he started me at Paul Mitchell Houston and I obtained my cosmetology license. Shortly after I started working at a salon and worked up to being a manager. Seeing my potential my husband helped me open a suite where I built and established my clientele in League City. Then we decided to start a family, I had a beautiful baby boy in 2014, I continued to work while being a new mom and shortly after my son turned a year old I was pregnant with our daughter. However I developed Hyperemesis gravidarum during her pregnancy, where I could not stop the nausea, I was hospitalized three times for dehydration and it lasted the whole pregnancy.

During this time, I could not continue at my suite, so sadly I had to stop working. I became a stay at home mom, I did mobile services and clients here and there but my focus was raising my babies. My husband and I made many happy memories over these years and although I wanted to get back to it full time eventually, we were just waiting for the right time. Unfortunately that time came but with a heavy cost. My husband of 10 years, passed away in October 2021 due to Covid, and we have been devastated by it. He was the love of our lives. The most amazing father and my best friend. Through the support of my family and friends we were ok but I had to start working again.

I reached out to my long time friend and former classmate at cosmetology school, Jessica, to start working at her salon. I have worked at her salon for the past 3 months taking hair appointments and providing mobile services for airbrush makeup. However the kids and I decided for our mental health and financially the best thing is to move to Cypress to be closer to my family. We make the move in March and I will be continuing my dream job my husband helped me achieve over 10 years ago, in April I will start working in my own suite at Sola Salons. My goal was always to make him proud and I’ll continue to do so and he always let me know that he was very proud of the mom, wife and stylist I am, he believed in my talent. So cheers to my hubby in heaven, watching me and guiding me on this journey. I wouldn’t be doing what I love had I not met him 12 years ago.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some struggles as I spoke of before were when I had my son I had to juggle working and being a new mom to shortly after being pregnant with my second child. I could not work since I was too sick throughout the pregnancy but after I had her I went back to working.

Covid was also a struggle since I had to close for the period of the lockdown. Things were picking back up a bit slow but the biggest struggle has been losing my husband. I work now to provide a future for my kids by myself and so I am taking it very seriously. Not only their mental health but mine. It has been the hardest thing I have to endure. But a fresh new start in a new city might help us get back on our feet and cherish that we still have each other.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed cosmetologist, graduated from Paul Mitchell the School. I have attended many classes, seminars and expos to further my education. I specialize in airbrush makeup, threading, hair cuts and hair color (balayage and micro foils are my favorite) I am most proud of my customer service, I have been blessed to call my clients friends. What sets me apart is that I listen to my clients I give them exactly what they want and offer advice to help them achieve their hair and makeup goals. I have implemented many additional services such as mobile services where I bring the salon to you. Also makeup classes for clients who want me to show them in a one on one manner how to apply makeup with what they have in their makeup bag. I have done classes for teens starting out their makeup journey with plenty of resources and product knowledge and one on one instruction tips and tricks. My goal is to have you achieve the looks you want at home. Whether it’s a good haircut I give so it’s easier to blow out your hair on your own or a makeup look we do together so you can easily recreate it at home, I just provide the tools for the best result like a foundation and you build on it.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Although the journey I have had was not always smooth, I loved every part of it. I would have never known my passion for making people feel beautiful or handsome, had it not been questioned and guided by my late husband. He believed in me so much that I started to believe in myself, my confidence grew with his pride in me. So to honor him I will start new and I will persevere from the beautiful foundation he built with me. As he watches me from above I will make him proud and be successful, though it hurts not having him here I know he is watching and guiding me. Adversity is what makes people exceptional, and I plan to be.
