Daily Inspiration: Meet Marcus/Adrian Williams/Barrett Jr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus/Adrian Williams/Barrett Jr.

Hi Marcus/Adrian , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Show Style Talk was established in July 2017 starting off as a band radio station on All Real Radio located in the heart of 3rd Ward at the time. The idea of creating the podcast was to create something on the level of a sports broadcasting stage. Adrian and Marcus marched in the world famous Texas Southern University “Ocean of Soul” Marching Band. While marching over 10 years ago they came up with a idea of trying do something that focused around marching bands to market the brand of culture. In 2017, Adrian had internship with a internet based radio station called “All Real Radio” ,while working there he reached out to Marcus with the idea of possibly starting up the show they once were talking about while in the band together. They both came up with different ideas trying to come up with a name for the brand and finally they agreed on Show Style Talk. Show Style is a popular form of “marching style” you see majority HBCU(Historically Black College’s and Universities) marching bands perform on the field during fieldshows getting crowd appeal, featuring the most popular hit music, amazing choreography, and unique high stepping. After they thought of the Show Style portion of the name, the “Talk” came in because they would be broadcasting on a radio station. So altogether the full name would come out to be Show Style Talk. Show Style Talk later added another host by the name of Mr. Travis Dumas who was a former drum major for Texas Southern University “Ocean of Soul”. They also added Media Personal to help out with the show who were Mr. Jeremy Spencer “Ocean of Soul Alum” and Mr. Jerome Law “Human Jukebox Alum”. While the show continued to grown Adrian thought of a idea to bring a female presence on the show to join the team, so they could have someone speak about the dancers in the marching band world.
Ms. Tarren Scurry “Human Jukebox Alum” was added to the team. She gave great detail on the different things about the HBCU dance side like the precision,high-energy dance form with blends of jazz, hip-hop, and ballet that dancer’s bring to the table. As a team Show Style Talk hosted and helped out with many events such as the 2018 State Fair Showdown Battle of the Bands in Dallas Texas, 2019 National Battle of the Bands in Houston,TX , Summer Band events and High School events. They’ve grown across the band community and networked with alot of people. Show Style Talk has interviewed several marching band directors from every musical standpoint from elementary to the college level. Show Style Talk can be found on all media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook etc.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road was a bumpy but that was expected because you have to build a foundation on what you want to accomplish. Some of the struggles would ,we were trying to stay consistent keeping people engaged on what we do. Some people did not always agree on our takes of things but we managed to grow from it

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are known to be one of the first marching band podcast channels on YouTube along with our fellow friends the Rogers Bros. We are mostly proud of having a platform where we can highlight the success of marching bands, directors and most importantly the musicians in the program. What sets us a part from others is the big passion to grow the platform more than what it is.
