Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus-Jamal Gray.
Hi Marcus-Jamal , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started back when I was in college shot a music video for a class and fell in love with the camera. The real work began when I move to Houston and decided to peruse sports photography in 2019. I went to local
High school football games and took pictures of the athletes. The athletes love the photos so much they started asking for videos and after covid happen I decided to give videography a go and that decision lead to me landing contract gigs with Fox Sports, UFL , NCCA , NFL and FIFA. I know freelance full time and building my media company OTR(OnTheRise). This took years of hard work and stepping out of my comfort zone!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve had countless times of struggle from self doubt to trusting the wrong people. Life is a journey of lessons. But everyone’s journey isn’t the same and I wouldn’t change mine at all. I’ve learned a lot along the way and still learning to this day.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a freelance creative and the owner of a media production company. I create high-quality photo and video content for businesses, brands, athletes, and schools, with a focus on storytelling that connects with audiences.
One of the projects I’m most proud of is a documentary I produced featuring former NFL running back David Johnson as he transitioned from the NFL to the rapidly growing sport of HYROX. Having the opportunity to document that journey was an incredible experience.
What sets me apart is my ability to build genuine relationships with the people I work with. I can connect with just about anyone, which helps create authentic content and allows people to feel comfortable in front of the camera.
What’s next?
I’m looking forward to building OTR into a well known media production company.
