Daily Inspiration: Meet Marissa Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Garcia.

Hi Marissa , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! I’m Marissa Garcia, a 29-year-old hairstylist, wife, and mama. I’m incredibly grateful to do what I love every day, and I couldn’t do it without the unwavering support of my husband and family.

I graduated high school in 2015 with my cosmetology license, and I’ve now been behind the chair for over 11 years. My passion for hair started at a young age, inspired by my Nana, who was a hairstylist for a short time, and my brother, Mateo, who worked as a celebrity hairstylist in Dallas and Los Angeles before bringing his talent back home to Galveston, Texas.

From early on, I discovered my love for hair color and have dedicated my career to continually learning and refining my techniques to create beautiful, lived-in color. Investing in education has always been important to me. I traveled to Los Angeles to become RËZO Curly Cut Certified and later flew to New York to earn my Redken Certified Hair Colorist certification. During that time, I also became Bellami Hair Extensions Certified.

In October 2023, I took one of the biggest leaps of faith in my career and opened my own salon studio, Elevate Beauty by Marissa Garcia. This business has truly been my baby. Becoming a business owner has challenged me in the best ways, but it has also deepened my love for this industry. I love being able to serve my clients in a space that reflects my heart, create a schedule that works for my family, and provide an experience that’s completely my own.

One of my favorite parts of this career is the relationships I’ve built. I’m definitely a people person, and many of my clients have become genuine friends. Whether they’ve been with me since my previous salon or found me after opening my own studio suite, I never take their trust for granted. It means the world to me that they choose me to care for their hair.

Above everything else, my faith is the foundation of my business. I truly believe Elevate Beauty exists because of God’s faithfulness. He gave me the vision for this business, has opened doors I never imagined, and continues to bring the most amazing clients into my chair. I strive to create a space where everyone feels welcomed, cared for, and leaves feeling more confident than when they walked in.

At Elevate Beauty, you’ll find a little bit of everything, girl talk, lots of laughter, meaningful conversations, worship music, and peaceful spa-like vibes. My goal is for every appointment to feel like a chance to relax, recharge, and leave feeling beautiful inside and out.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think every business owner can relate when I say there have definitely been obstacles along the way. As a small business owner, I don’t have unlimited resources, so slower seasons can sometimes feel overwhelming. But through every slow season, I’ve chosen to hold onto my faith and trust that God will provide, and He always does!

I’ve also learned to see those slower moments as a gift. They allow me to spend more quality time with my babies, pour into my family, and be productive in my other business ventures. Looking back, I can honestly say that every season, whether busy or slow, has served a purpose and taught me something valuable.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As I mentioned before, I’m a full-time hairstylist specializing in lived-in hair color, curly cuts, and K-tip extensions. I genuinely love what I do, and I feel incredibly blessed to have built a career that allows me to create on my own terms.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that something I’m so passionate about also helps provide for my family. My salon suite never feels like “work” because I’ve intentionally created a space that feels peaceful, welcoming, and relaxing for every client who walks through the door.

I’m a true girls’ girl, and I wholeheartedly believe there’s room for all of us to succeed. There are millions of talented hairstylists, and I genuinely cheer them on. I’ve never believed this industry is about being better than someone else. Instead, I believe every stylist has unique gifts, specialties, and the clients they’re meant to serve.

Because I approach my business with that mindset, I think it naturally creates a welcoming energy. Clients can feel that authenticity, and I believe that’s one of the reasons they’re drawn to my chair. My goal has never been to compete with others, it’s simply to serve the people God places in front of me, help them feel beautiful, and create an experience they’ll always want to come back to.

What matters most to you?
My faith and my family are at the center of everything I do. They are the pillars that keep me grounded, the reason behind every goal I pursue, and the constant reminder that with God, all things are possible. They inspire me to keep growing, keep serving, and keep showing up with purpose every single day.
