The story of the Mocksy Bar has been unfolding for years. As second-generation Indian American women, my partner and I grew up navigating the complexities of cultural identity in environments that often clashed with our religious and cultural upbringing. In our 20s, we found ourselves feeling excluded from many social and professional events due to their heavy focus on alcohol. We got really tired of being left out of the party. Our hopes and dreams for The Mocksy Bar is that it makes more people like us feel more included. After all, there are non-alcoholic options beyond soft drinks and water!
We really believe a fulfilling social life and a vibrant creative experience can flourish without alcohol. We are thrilled that the sober-curious movement is gaining momentum, reflecting a growing desire for alternative options. Yet, event menus often fail to keep pace with this shift, offering limited and uninspired choices. We believe it’s time to elevate the mocktail experience and demonstrate that delicious and sophisticated beverages can be enjoyed by everyone.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Entrepreneurship is a demanding journey. In the early stages, we’ve found ourselves juggling numerous roles – from accountant to marketer – while simultaneously pursuing our careers in dentistry and cybersecurity. While our formal education may not have equipped us with all the technical skills needed to run a business, it instilled invaluable soft skills that we believe are essential for long-term success. Our partnership has been incredibly valuable, allowing us to leverage our individual strengths and navigate the challenges that inevitably arise.
Finding a healthy work-life balance has been our biggest challenge. This often involves creative scheduling, such as networking during lunch breaks or dropping off business cards at local stores before or after work. We are constantly brainstorming, capturing content, and seeking new opportunities to enhance our services. We are always researching trends, exploring new inventory and recipes, and striving to provide the best possible experience for our clients. The Mocksy Bar is always at the forefront of our minds!
