Hi Mhakea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Mhakea and I am the creator of Mystic YaYa, a spiritual healing practice. I am a Usui Reiki Master Teacher and licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have worked as a medical social worker for over 15 years predominantly in the area of mental health within the hospital system.
As a result of my colorful upbringing in New Orleans, I lived life open to various spiritual and healing practices. As a mother of two, working in a helping profession, I know the value of self-care. I had been studying tarot and using crystals for their healing properties on myself for years. So when I discovered Reiki many years ago, it felt natural. Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of energy healing. It is not a religion. It is a gentle non-intrusive, hands-on, or off practice in which spiritual energy is channeled. Reiki promotes deep relaxation while helping to reduce stress and anxiety. Every person experiences a unique set of benefits. It is a tool similar to meditation, yoga, or acupuncture that can help you along your healing path, both spiritually and physically.
Once I added self Reiki to my regular daily practice, I noticed changes in different areas of my life. My body rejected certain foods and drinks. My dreams became more vivid and insightful. My intuition strengthened and it became easier to trust myself in areas that were once difficult. I began doing Reiki with my family members and friends. Soon, their friends were asking for sessions. Eventually, I decided that I would start a healing practice and Mystic YaYa was born. However as I geared up to launch, COVID hit and I had to pivot. The great thing about Reiki is that it is energy and energy can be sent from anywhere at any time to any place. So instead of in-person sessions, I started offering distance Reiki. I loved hearing how the information provided after their session resonated with what they had been experiencing. Eventually, I began creating crystal photo grids for my clients as part of their sessions and that’s when things took off for me.
Crystal grids are like a tangible prayer that you can touch, see and feel. They work as a conduit between the vibrations of the crystals and the energetic patterns they are arranged in, combined with a desired intention. Each crystal adds to the vibrational frequency of the grid and amplifies the properties of the other crystals to create a powerful healing and manifesting tool. Crystal grids combined with a photo and Reiki only added to the energy of the session.
I met amazing people and now have clients as far away as the UK and India. There was so much interest that I now teach Reiki virtually and in person in Memorial Park. Many students have become friends. I’m fortunate that the weather has always cooperated. Though, why wouldn’t it? We have healing energy on our side.
Today Mystic YaYa has grown to offer healing experiences using Reiki, crystal grids, and the vibrational energy of affirmations. The words you repeat to yourself are sacred. Creating your own spiritual practice through rituals and the energy of your healing intentions can change your life. My most recent addition is the Ritual Affirmation card deck. It is a deck of 52 affirmations that can awaken your sense of personal power through the energy of optimism and the vibration of your positive spoken words. If it sounds complicated, don’t worry. It comes with specific instructions. I’m currently working on creating a tarot deck inspired by the magic of New Orleans. Having my own divination tools have become really important to me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, I’ve had a few small bumps and one big one. The small ones have been learning to change with the nuances of social media. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful to have access to platforms like Instagram and TikTok but staying on top of their algorithm is a constant challenge. With social media, it’s easy to get comfortable posting the same way but when you have a business, it’s important to change as the platform changes. That can be tough.
My biggest hurdle was in 2021 when my younger brother passed away unexpectedly. He was only thirty-five years old and as you can imagine, everything stopped for me. I had to take time off and pause. The tools that I had been using to help my clients, I had to prioritize for myself and turn it up a notch because grief is can be complicated. I really leaned into affirmations and stillness. Some days, the most I could tell myself was, “I am okay”. We can’t avoid the rough waves of life but it’s important to know when to surrender and float. My clients understood and welcomed me back when I was ready.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I offer healing experiences through distance Reiki, crystal photo grids, and affirmations. I believe in honoring the mind, body, and spirit and using my intuition to guide my work. I’m most known for my crystal photo grids. They are an extension of the healing experience.
My intention is to help my clients awaken their sense of personal power through energy and insight. My hope is that after a session, you feel lighter, more relaxed, and inspired to live as your highest self. I hold the belief that being open to possibilities can shift your energy and allow you to attract the life you want.
In my professional life, I’m most proud of the fact that I believed in my vision enough to plant the seeds in the dark. We don’t always know what the outcome will be but it’s important to just keep following your intuition. In my personal life, I’m most proud of the self-work that I never stop doing. It’s helped me to create a beautiful life.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’m grateful to my clients. They deserve the credit. I’ve learned so much from every interaction. Some clients simply learned new things to add to their spiritual practice, others became students and eventually energy workers. All of them add to the light in the world and in me. I’m also grateful to my family and friends for their constant support and encouragement. I’ve learned the importance of paying attention to the energy that surrounds me.
