Hi Kat, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Wow… where to start! First off hello my name is Katherine A Moon best known as Miss Kat Moon, and I’m guessing it would be my love for creating and collaborating in the culinary and arts sectors along with being an actress and digital creator in the entertainment industry that started it all off.
Being in the hospitality and entertainment industry for more than twenty plus years would play a huge part, and deciding to join and become the Creative Director/Co-Owner of this amazing hidden gem The Event Place in Houston, TX, located at 508 James St. at the corner of James and North Main.
When the opportunity presented itself to team up with Elizabeth Smith and Cynthia Haynie on their hidden treasure which both along with an amazing crew lead by Mike Velazquez, our Facility’s Manager, spent countless hours in designing the interior elements to stay true to the structural integrity of the once Martinez Resale Shop building; I knew right away from visiting the venue and from our first meeting that this was the next step in my entrepreneur and artistic entertainment journey!
A fun local historical fact is that back in the day the building use to house the old Martinez Resale Shop which was the neighborhood local’s hangout spot in the late 1990s.
Since diving in full throttle with our close-knit team it’s been amazing to see The Event Place catching the eye and gaining popularity for those looking to host boutique weddings, intimate pop-up shop fashion shows, corporate cocktail receptions, and themed baby showers.
We recently hosted our Golden Guest Celebration in July, which was beyond humbling to see so many come out to enjoy and support our revamping of The Event Place and to announce a few of the exciting community events we are looking forward to showcasing as a venue in the future. One being The Golden Market, which we also hosted in July created to feature and support small businesses, local artist, and culinary entrepreneurs with various creatives in an elevated indoor pop-up shop market event experience which our team along with collaborating with my longtime friend and colleague Jack Potts founder of Bohemian Photography who is a well-known fashion and entertainment photographer in the industry.
As for the future, I’m also personally looking forward to fully launching my corporation KAM Collaborative Concepts, LLC in the coming months, established by faith in 2015, by discovering new ways to collaborate with those within my existing circle along with having the opportunity to explore new entrepreneurial endeavors with other industry professionals and various creatives while showcasing The Event Place venue so others may experience and enjoy our amazing hidden gem in Houston, TX!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My professional journey over the past twenty-plus years truly had its unexpected obstacles and monumental mountains of challenges to overcome YET everything is finally coming into fruition after years of determination, resilience, and tons of prayer both personally and supportively, with family and true friends who never stopped believing in my ultimate vision.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For the past five-plus years, I’ve worked closely within the event coordinating and curator sector(s) in the events industry, largely assisting and solo-planning high-level client receptions, corporate socials, and non-profit gala events throughout the Greater Houston area. Many would say I am known for my troubleshooting skills, impeccable attention to certain details, and the patience displayed when creating and working with others through the creative process with clients to ensure the desired requests and needs are showcased to the fullest.

What I love about Houston is the diversity represented in our city and the opportunities there are for various creatives and eager entrepreneurs to flourish and be discovered!
