Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Rosenbaum.
Hi Morgan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been interested in cars, and I’ve been surrounded by music since I was a kid. There’s still a drawer at my parent’s house full of Hot Wheels, and there’s still a guitar sitting in the corner of my bedroom. I got my first camera as a Hannukah gift when I was a freshman in high school, and started bringing it to all the car meets I’d convince my parents to drive me to.
Eventually, once I got my own car, I began making connections within the Houston car community and started planning photoshoots with friends’ cars and people I’d met at events. From then on I became a regular at the various car events across the city, and later in high school even planned some of my own with a group of local car photographers called Shutters and Speed.
As a junior in high school, I got an internship with the Houston Chronicle, and started reviewing and photographing the occasional concert or music festival. I’ve been going to concerts with my dad since I was in elementary school, and it seemed like a natural next step to start shooting them as well, with a goal of making the viewer feel like they were standing at the show right with me. I enjoy shooting through crowds and capturing the energy of a concert from the perspective of a fan.
I started Saffron Media House in 2017 simply as an Instagram page to post my photos so I wasn’t just posting on my personal account. Adding the ‘media house’ at the end made me sound and appear more professional, I thought.
I’m now 21, and a junior at UH majoring in marketing through the Bauer College, and still shooting as much as I can. I’m still a regular at local car events, and still shooting the occasional concert or festival, now with Coog Radio, as well as product photography for 8th Wonder.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it’s been a pretty smooth road for me, there’s been the odd minor issue here and there but I haven’t had any real struggles of mishaps.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an automotive, concert, and product photographer. I’m definitely known more for my car-related work, but I’m working towards building up my portfolio on the live music side as well.
Some proud moments include participating in private events with the local Bugatti/Rolls Royce/Bentley dealership, hosting some great car meets, working with local charity events like Drive for Kids MSR, getting the chance to shoot one of my favorite bands of all time, Iron Maiden, getting to shoot near-priceless Ferraris, and of course whenever anyone recognizes me or the Saffron Media House name.
One thing that sets my work apart from the crowd is my stubborn obsession with shooting things a little overexposed. Most of my car photos have the sky completely blown out to the point where it’s almost white. In an age where everything seems to be heavily edited or dark and moody, I like my photos to be super bright.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Honestly, I truly enjoy seeing other people happy. I wouldn’t call myself a people pleaser by any stretch, but I enjoy seeing people’s faces light up when they get excited about something.
I also enjoy going to concerts and experiencing cultures of all sorts, especially food and art. And music, especially if it’s loud.
