Daily Inspiration: Meet Myasia Obazee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myasia Obazee

Hi MyAsia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia!
I moved to Houston in April 2020 during the onset of the Pandemic.

Prior to 2020 I had been styling hair full time for 6.5 years since I graduated cosmetology school in 2012.

I had just graduated college in 2011 with a bachelors degree in computer science but during my post graduate summer internship with NASA I got sick.
August 2011, after having heart surgery, God gave me a dream to go to hair school so I did. I grew up styling hair , working as a shampoo girl and assistant in a salons but it was just a hobby. I never imagine having a career in the hair industry.
Part of me didn’t want to because I didn’t like the environments I was in growing up, along with the lack of professionalism that I saw as well.
I told God I would never be a hair stylist ; unbeknownst to me.
Well, as mentioned I graduated cosmetologist school in 2012 and been styling for the last 12 years! ☺️

In 2020 the salon I was styling hair at since 2014 was shut down as we know because of the Pandemic. Once I moved to Houston, I made use of my computer background and began building my graphic clientele building brands since everything was virtual.

But in August 2022, God gave my now husband a word to share with me to get back behind the chair. When my husband gave me this news I would have cried because I didn’t know if I’d ever style hair again after the pandemic.

So i just celebrated 2 years back behind the chair full time and it’s been amazing.

I’ve serviced over

Year 2, by Gods Grace and peace I’ve styled over 490 clients these past two years and lives have been changed.

I celebrate by Gods Grace, the amazing victories He allowed me to accomplish over the last two years!

I also became a certified hair loss specialist
And my goal is to continue to heal people from hair stylist traumas, hair loss, and let them know that there are licensed cosmetologist who love what they do and care about who they serve. God is truly my CEO!

I’m a versatile stylist meaning I’ve been graced to thrive in styling hair in different ways in excellence. From braids, color, cuts, locs, silk press and more. But most of all I have a love for scalp conditions, and hair growth and those who suffered from different conditions.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Styling hair in these last 12 years, has been amazing. No matter what amount of money I made or didn’t make, the lives being touched and changed is what has always given me Joy. From 2020-2022 it was a struggle being surrounded like the wrong people telling me to give up doing hair. That was a challenge because I began to loose hope. But I was reminded that God told me to pursue a career in this field because I realized I was a solution to every problem I saw in the hair industry. Though there are many stylist in this field, everyone is very different and I was able to make my mark here in Houston.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
