Daily Inspiration: Meet Myjoni Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myjoni Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was always musically inclined, I started off in 8th grade singing in the choir. I was a soprano from that point on. But aside from choir, I was always writing, whether it be poems, crazy raps, or just writing my thoughts in my notebooks. My love for writing really grew stronger in my junior year of high school. I had a class called creative writing that allowed me to express my thoughts more in-depth. My teacher encouraged us to be real about how we felt and encouraged us not to hold back. Everything I learned in that class is a part of my writing process in my music.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My journey with music hasn’t been the easiest, one of my biggest struggles is being consistent. I have this thing in my head that’ll allow me to write, freestyle, and sing my heart out off the mic. But as soon as I get in front of the mic I become critical of myself and my work, I get anxious, so much to the point I’ll stop my creative process and become so discouraged. I’m working on it though.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do everything. I’m a singer, rapper, writer, networker, and model, I’m also learning a few other things to be able to take my craft more seriously, but I’m not going to let that be known until It’s finished I’m known for performing. I would do talent shows here and there, and then eventually, I’d level up to open mics to perform with a band behind me in an art gallery. I’ve performed so much that I stopped counting. I started going went by and the performances made me feel alive. I’m most proud of myself for coming out of my shell to be able to showcase my talents, I have really bad anxiety, especially in a social setting. I pushed myself to be able to come out of my shell and show people that aside from my music, I have a personality. I know for a fact that my whole vibe sets me apart from others. Like seriously, how many people do you even know with my name? The last time I checked, I’m the only one. My wordplay, my sound, I’m a walking musical. This is my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Food makes me happy. Whenever I’m having a bad day, I just fire up some food and suddenly my life gets better. Another thing that makes me happy is writing stories, music, and poems. Recently I started writing about my nightmares and it’s been a hell of a ride seeing my nightmares so vividly on paper, it brings me clarity. And most importantly. My family makes me happy. Without them, my life wouldn’t mean much. I’m forever thankful for the love and care they give to me.
