Today we’d like to introduce you to Myunique Randolph.
Hi Myunique, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
hello, im myunique 🙂
my story begins with adoption, I am currently 33, and 1 of 9! (and the middle child)
growing up we had a stable life, my mom was a single parent who always made sure to provide for us. We had a great experience growing up; we ate a lot of food, frequent trips to six flags magic mountain, and meeting new people through my moms small business. We grew up in a local church and this is where the story starts to change.
When i was just 17, in 2011 we lost my brother to suicide. He was 18.
This was the event that changed the trajectory of my entire life.
There were no ‘signs’ of anything— this took us by complete and total surprise. See when you grow up in the church there is a phrase used amongst many christians that says, “God is good.”
17 year old me could not reconcile that God was good since my brother had just died.
I remember that same week we lost my brother, my mom telling us to get ready for church. I was so angry at God,why should we go to church to worship Him? I asked my mom plain and simple, WHY. What my mom told me next, eventually made such an impact on who I am today.
That day, I feel like she could sense my frustration, and she told me, “it’s okay myunique, it’s just like job”…
(and we went to church anyways)
For the next few days .. weeks, I wrestled with that statement. I didn’t know who Job is or why my mom thought it was important but I needed to find out. See my brother (the one that passed) was the one who in my own words, took church seriously. He served all the time, He hung out with people from church, he read his bible in his room..
I only tended to pick up my bible during sunday school.
So between him and my mom, I needed to know what this was about.
I picked up my bible hoping to get answers from God, and read through the book of Job.
I didn’t get answers, but what I did get was God. He met me in the middle of my mess and brokenness and it changed me.
As we still continued to grieve the loss of my brother, and other things in life, I fell in love with Jesus and serving in ministry. After this breakthrough I was convinced (whether true or not) that if only my brother knew how deeply the Lord loved him and still had purpose in his life despite the brokenness, maybe, just maybe, he’d still be here.
About a year later, I felt a tug from the Lord calling me into something I would have never dreamed, a more public ministry so to speak.
At the time, social media was just becoming a thing and so I did what I felt God telling me to do and started an annonymous instagram account called ‘instagramforbelievers’ (now instagrahamforbelievers). Because I was too shy to talk to people or even be on camera, I told God I would commit to posting one piece of encouragement a day as long as He did the rest. See, it was never about becoming an influencer or anything like that. My goal was simple: to encourage people to not do what my brother did, by reminding them of the hope we have in Jesus.
From that day on, my life has been changed by an instagram account. God kept His promise to me, and the account began to grow over the years— and I kept my promise, one encouraging post a day.
From this I have been able to share my story and more parts of my life via my podcast and youtube channel, as well as being invited to speak at conferences and events all throughout the U.S!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am convinced, there is no such thing as a ‘smooth road’ ever (ha!)
Since we lost my brother, while celebrating my instagram is a blessing there have been many struggles along the way such as in 2017 when I was the passenger in a car, and ended up in a terrible car accident that shattered my vertabrae. I needed back surgery, and had to learn how to walk again. Even changing my own clothes was too painful. And at 26, having your mom have to come in and help you change, isnt ideal. After this accident I experienced depression and anxiety for the first vivid time of my life (being in a hospital for 2 weeks can be depressing!). I also went through break ups, like any young gal!
I also struggled with a deep porn addiction, discovered I had daddy issues which was crazy because I had zero relationship with my dad but somehow ended up at his funeral, the day before my birthday ! & so much more
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While most known for being ‘instagramforbelievers’ through that I was also able to start my own christian clothing brand called – Jesus Loves Broken People. It was birthed out of this need to remind people that their brokenness does not disqualify them from God.
After my brothers funeral that I spoke at (my first time speaking in public), my then pastor called me and told me he believed I had a gift for ministry and I should try it. I said no. My first and immediate thought was that ministry wasn’t for me, it was more for perfect people and that just wasn’t me. I was struggling with my identity and what I wanted to do after graduating high school, I had a porn addiction, I felt ugly no matter what I did or wore— that life just wasnt for me. My pastor asked me for about 6 months, and I said no. One day a friend of mine, also my pastors daughter, convinced me to try it out just once and they’d leave me be and so I finally did. Little did I know, how much I would come to love it. I have spent most of my adult life serving the local church as a volunteer, youth director, and young adults pastor (all over the course of 14 years)
I have also been able to grow my own clothing brand (very small) by selling hand painted denim jackets and other merch.
I also have 2 e-books out, one on faith when being tried by fire (faith through the fire) and one on discipleship called Can I sit with You
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
check out my stuff and see if there is collab potential!
I know it’s not everyone’s niche, but I love sharing encouragement. Whether that be on a podcast/youtube, on a stage/in church or camps!
If you like my merch designs, consider purchasing and share with others!
