Hi Nelslibmar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Nelslibmar, and I am the creator and designer behind Bellina @accessoribellina a handmade accessories brand. I’m 34 years old, born in Venezuela, but currently based between Toronto, Canada, and Houston, USA. The idea for Bellina came to life when I was finishing my degree in petrochemical engineering in Venezuela. Although I graduated in that field, my passion for accessories, especially earrings, kept growing. That’s when I decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship. I didn’t know much about business at the time, but I’ve always been resourceful and eager to learn.
In 2014, I officially launched Bellina, and after two years of hard work, I was able to establish the brand in Venezuela and the Caribbean. I even became certified as a jeweler. But just as I was getting closer to fulfilling my dream, I faced the decision to move to Canada in 2016. For almost four years, I worked for a designer in New York, which allowed me to stay connected to the world of design, but without the creative freedom I truly enjoyed. During this time, I also became a mother, and after facing postpartum depression, I decided to put my business on hold.
It was a challenging period, but eventually, I realized that returning to Bellina was my way of reconnecting with what truly brought me joy. So, at the end of 2021, I decided to start again. I quickly realized that things had changed — it wasn’t enough for the product to speak for itself anymore. I had to learn how to promote my brand on social media, how to humanize it, and how to connect with an audience in a different way. I did all of this from home while taking care of my baby.
Today, Bellina is a versatile handmade accessories brand, where I love to mix techniques like wirework, natural stones, and Miyuki beads. Through my designs, I not only aim to create beautiful pieces but also to help people feel good about what they wear. I’ve even designed solutions for those with torn earlobes and introduced earring stabilizers to ensure comfort while wearing accessories. My goal is for each person who wears a Bellinapiece to feel like they’re wearing something truly special that reflects who they are.
In my social media, I try to convey an important message: learning to embrace the process without being too hard on ourselves. Often, we are so focused on reaching our goals and dreams, or on how we want to be seen, that we forget to live in the moment. With Bellina I always remind people to keep dreaming but to live one day at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been balancing my journey as a full-time mom while trying to develop my brand. I had to learn how to navigate the demands of motherhood and entrepreneurship simultaneously.
At first, it was overwhelming to try and build Bellina while taking care of a baby, but along the way, I’ve learned to be gentle with myself. I realized that this was the path I chose — to start my business while my son was still small — and not to wait until he was older. This process has taught me to embrace the season I’m in and find ways to balance my dreams with the needs of my family. It hasn’t been easy, but it has made me stronger, more resilient, and more connected to my brand’s purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the founder and designer of Bellina, a brand that specializes in handmade accessories, particularly earrings. My work incorporates various techniques, from wirework to using natural stones and Miyuki beads, allowing me to create pieces that are unique, personal, and versatile.
I also design bridal accessories, offering everything from delicate pieces to bold statement items for brides who want to express their individual style on their special day.
What sets Bellina apart is the attention to detail and the emotional connection behind each piece. I design with the wearer in mind, ensuring that each accessory complements their personality and style.
One of the things I’m most proud of is creating solutions for women who face challenges with their earrings, such as torn earlobes. I’ve designed pieces with stabilizers and special backings that make wearing earrings comfortable again, even for those who thought they couldn’t wear them anymore.
More than just creating beautiful accessories, Bellina is about helping people feel confident and comfortable in what they wear. I’m constantly exploring ways to blend craftsmanship
Any big plans?
I’m excited about expanding Bellina to include more versatile accessories and exploring collaborations with other artisans. I also aspire to have my designs showcased on runways and featured in editorial shoots. My goal is to enhance my online presence and build a community around the brand, while continuing to inspire others to express their unique style through handmade pieces.
