Today we’d like to introduce you to NHO Nelly.
Hi NHO, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started taking music seriously around the age of 18. I was making neosoul and r & b tracks around the time. The following year we were having a studio session and my producer made a beat he wanted us to freestyle on. It was just for fun, but I actually sounded good rapping. I also felt good rapping. I knew then that I wanted to make rap music and potentially merge prior sounds I was exposed to. NHO Nelly finally came to life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Any time you follow what your heart desires, challenges will arise, but that just reveals how committed you are to that goal or that achievement. One of the biggest struggles is dedicating so much time to my craft that I don’t always get to do what I’d like to with my 24 hours. Spending time with loved ones is important to me but I don’t always have the time. Sacrifices are destined to be made on journeys such as this one and when you’re all in it manifests itself. The ones who truly love and support you will understand even though at times, it’ll be hard for them too. They ultimately understand my brand and my motto, “Nothing Happens Overnight”.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
One of my biggest milestones as of this moment is having a trending single for almost a year now. My last single release ‘Rockstar’ has made rounds around the globe and even earned a write-up in ‘Houstonia Mag’ since hitting streaming platforms. As we get close me to the one-year anniversary, there are big plans in the works for the single.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m always reading so I’ll share a few of my favorite books at the moment:
How to be Free by Joe Blow
We Do This Til We Free Us by Mariame Kaba
The Autobiography of Gucci Mane
The Richest Man in Babylon by George Samuel Clason
Sacred Woman by Queen Afua
