Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick and Ally Anderson.
Hi Nick and Ally, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Bee EZ Apiary beegan 🐝 in the early spring of 2021.
We purchased our first bee box to help pollinate our garden which was big, green, and lush, but were having a hard time producing any fruits or vegetables.
In only a matter of days after introducing the bees to the land, we noticed our plants beginning to produce and were able to witness firsthand just how BIG of an impact these little creatures have!
This is when we really fell in love with keeping and caring for these precious pollinators!
In our excitement, we made a humble post on our Nextdoor neighborhood app giving thanks to our new garden helpers along with a bit of knowledge we now had on the importance of the honeybees!
Our neighbors were just as excited as we were about our new venture and relationship with the bees!
Lots of neighbors began to reach out for help in rehoming wild bees that had taken up residency in or near their homes! We quickly realized that with our newfound love and knowledge for these special creatures we could not only do our neighbors a good service but the bees as well!
And thus, Bee EZ Apiary was born!
In just two seasons we have grown from our first hive to dozens of hives! In the summertime we perform removals daily, sometimes two a day! We remove the hive completely, find the queen bee during the process, reorient the hive into a bee box, let all the bees move in, and rehome them back to our honeybee sanctuary!
With our caring and bee-friendly tactics, we pride ourselves in offering unmatched, quality bee removal services to our local community and most importantly saving the bees!
We are a husband and wife team growing our business with the help of our enthusiastic 6-year-old daughter and her grandmother too! Beekeeping is a beeautiful 🐝 hobby for all ages that we are lucky enough to have turned into something that supports us as well as the land we so very much depend on!
Bee EZ Apiary now offers not only bee-friendly hive rehomings but also a variety of Apitheraputic services including beeswax-infused skincare, natural immunity boosting extracts, bee venom therapy, vibrational mediations, and more!
Bee EZ Apiary is growing rapidly and we are beeyond 🐝 grateful to our incredibly supportive community for calling on us to help save the bees!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Beekeeping is a humble profession. Our biggest struggle is explaining to homeowners the importance of having us come out to perform a proper hive removal.
Often times we receive calls from neighbors asking us if we will “come get their bees” but they are shocked when we tell them we require a fee for our services.
They will say things like, “well I could just spray the bees” or “well I’ll just seal up their entrance and let them all die out”.
But by utilizing what they may believe to be an easier or cheaper method then having us perform a proper removal they are in fact creating a larger and potentially even more expensive problem.
If the bees are simply sprayed or the entrance sealed up that is leaving an entire hive filled with honeycomb, pollen, bee larvae, and bee carcasses beehind 🐝. Left alone the comb will be overtaken by maggots fairly quickly, pests like cockroaches or rodents will seek out the honey with no bees to defend it, and the chances of a new swarm of bees overtaking the space and moving in is extremely likely. We have seen ALL of these unfortunate circumstances play out.
We have to explain that when we perform a hive removal we are removing 100% of the hive. This will ensure that there is nothing left behind for new pests to seek out, nothing for maggots to munch on, and no vacancy for new bees to move into!
We also offer repairs on more invasive removals so the homeowner doesn’t have to seek out a second contractor for this service. We are a beeginning 🐝 to end deal!
After learning all of this, the homeowners are typically more willing to accommodate our fees which are very fair considering we are not only saving the bees but the sanitation and quality of the home as well.
But this is our most common struggle when it comes to saving the bees.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Nick has a professional background in inspections and rope access. This has helped us immensely with performing bee removals at great heights and in locations that would typically be unattainable! Having worked for years as an inspector, we are more than confident in his ability to perform proper repairs from removals when necessary as well as utilizing technology like thermal imaging to locate and detect hives in hidden spaces. Also with his inspector’s cap, he takes great pride in ensuring the quality of our hives keeping them organized, healthy, and productive.
Ally has a professional teaching background. Having worked with ages 4-12 she is passionate in molding curious minds in a positive manner! This is a huge benefit to our apiary as we hold tours and classes for our community to spread our knowledge, love, and awareness for the honeybees! Ally is able to administer great amounts of information in even the shortest of sessions ensuring that everyone takes away something beeautiful 🐝 from a visit with Bee EZ Apiary.
What were you like growing up?
Nick grew up here in Texas and Ally in North Carolina. From early ages we were individually very much infatuated with the outdoors.
Ally spent the majority of her time climbing trees, playing hide and seek with friends in the woods, collecting rocks, studying different plants, helping her grandparents in their garden, and camping with her family.
Nick spent a fair amount of his childhood riding dirt bikes and watching his muse Steve Erwin, the Crocodile Hunter. This infatuation with interacting with the wildlife probably sparked his interest in rescuing the bees beefore 🐝 he even knew it!
We both developed a deep respect for nature and wildlife through our individual upbringings and are so thankful to have found a partner as an adult that shares those same nature-based values!
