Daily Inspiration: Meet Nicole Burgess

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Burgess

Nicole , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been a professional photographer for 8 years, but I’ve been passionate about photography my whole life. My grandpa George was a master of capturing the perfect sunset on film and passed his love for landscapes on to my dad who in turn instilled the love of photography into to me from a young age. My passion organically grew into a full-time gig after my daughter was born in 2016 and I was lucky enough to have a community of clients ready to hire me as their photographer.

I graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelors in Media Production & Communications with a minor in English Literature.

My main goal when capturing images is to immortalize authentic scenes of life by snatching little moments of candid love and emotion on film. Whether it’s pure joy, a screaming toddler or a lovers intimate laugh, I strive to capture honest moments that tell the story of people’s lives. I make an effort to gently prompt clients into beautiful natural moments and make my clients feel comfortable while doing so.

In addition to candids, I always try to get a few posed shots in, portraits that will be hung in great great grandchildren’s homes a hundred years from now, much like the ones of my ancestors that hang on my walls.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building a business is always a gamble and there have been times when it felt like it would be easier to give in and find a 9-5 job, but I have a very supportive husband who has encouraged me along the way and parents who will happily watch my kids as my schedule demands. I don’t think that my photography business would be possible without their support.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I focus on newborn photography during the weekdays and on the weekends on couples and families. I think I’m most proud of the scope of sessions I offer, so clients can come to one photographer for all their needs.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Fun fact, I carry my grandpa’s camera bag & light meter from the 60’s and learned to shoot film on his old Pentax!
