Daily Inspiration: Meet Nicole Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Williams.

Hi Nicole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey, I’m Nicole! I’m a writer and poet living in Spring who writes about forgiveness and grace. I love spice shops, museums, throwing great parties, and a strong cup of black coffee with NY cheesecake!

I’m the author of “RISE UP: Believing God When the World is Falling Apart.” I’ve been married to my sweet husband Lance for 27 years, and I have the joy of being a mom to two amazing young adults, Hanna and Jack.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I felt called to start writing, I was overcome by imposter syndrome. It actually got the best of me for a few years before I decided to stop the negative self-talk and simply follow my calling.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I help people forgive when family relationships are tough. You might have people in your life who’ve hurt you, or maybe they’re the ones holding a grudge against you. But wouldn’t it be amazing if we could live in a healthy way mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? We can, friends! Forgiveness is a process of little steps that add up to transformation and freedom. When we really know this about ourselves and accept that it’s true for other people too, life has the ability to become so much lighter. It gives us eyes to see the perfect beauty in all people.

If you’re not sure how to take that first step, grab my free guide “Start Tiny.” It’s an essential tool to create biblical and practical habits to heal unforgiveness. Even if a relationship seems broken, be brave. If you want to be reconciled, keep working. Because healing can happen friends. It took me 30 years to forgive my Mom. I hope it doesn’t take you that long, but if you can’t forgive right now, at least forgive yourself until you can. You can be free!

In the middle of 2020, it seemed we were all struggling with similar things: fear, lack of community, loving those we didn’t agree with, and finding rest in the day-to-day while so much was coming unhinged. Yet all around I still saw our shared potential—in our brokenness, there was also beauty, and in our beauty, there was brokenness, too. Not just one or the other. We shared hopes and dreams, but also sorrows and loss. This shared experience led me to write “RISE UP.”

“RISE UP: Believing God When the World is Falling Apart,” has 31 devotional prayers that model a simple method of intentional praise, even in the midst of suffering. When we intentionally praise God and offer thanksgiving to Him during a difficult time, it shifts our focus away from our problems and moves us to meditate on the nature and character of God Himself. Praise reminds us that God is with us and His love for us remains—it’s what sets us back on our feet.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in California with parents who embraced all the glory of San Francisco in the 1970s. They considered it their hobby to challenge all three of their kids! Favorite memories aren’t necessarily only the good experiences; sometimes stressful moments can somehow become favorites. Some of mine were learning to sail in the frigid SF bay, picking up hitchhikers along the Pacific Coast Highway in our red Mustang convertible, running a marathon at 11, and learning to use chopsticks in Chinatown when my Dad asked for all the silverware to be removed from the table. Almost all of these were out of my comfort zone as a child, but incredibly grateful to have had these experiences in my life.
