Daily Inspiration: Meet Nikita Morrow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikita Morrow

Hi Nikita, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child, I would always walk on the backs of my uncles and brothers. Not knowing at the time that I was performing a form of massage. All I knew is what I did made people I loved feel better. Fast forward to my adult years, still chasing the feeling of making someone feel better was always in the front of my mind. Unexpectedly, I began massaging in pursuit of another dream, physical therapy! In an attempt to get into a very competitive physical therapy assistant program, after being rejected of course. I decided to take on massage to help me stand out more when I reapplied the following year. Little did I know that I would fall madly in love with massaging and would began a journey that so far from my original plan.

I began massage school and learned new ways to help those in need. After graduation, I began my business providing mobile massage services to the city of Houston and surrounding areas. Within a short time, I began working with a chiropractor and seeing his clients as well as my own. Shortly after, I began the journey to specialize in sports massage taking additional classes to become certified to work specifically with athletes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not, but in all honesty I don’t expect it to be. Challenges are how I learn best and everything about this journey from learning a new profession to opening a business is something I’ve never done before nor has anyone in my immediate family. I try to place myself in the mind of the client and think, what would I like and what would I expect from my therapist or a business I’m interacting with and to be completely honest every day there is something I could improve on.

I’ve ran into all types of problems just trying to figure it out. I’ve had clients attempt to over sexualize my profession, people not pay for sessions, people book and not show, clients not be satisfied with their service. All of which are extremely frustrating. However, that forced me to be better and change the way I go about certain things. I find myself purposely placing people around me that either have already been where I’m going or those who are walking the same path as me. Keeping like minded people around, helps me navigate through my struggles a little easier.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed massage therapist, currently honing my craft as a sports massage therapist. I have the pleasure of working in a sports chiropractic office three days out the week, where I not only see athletes on various levels but I also get personal tutaliage from the amazing chiropractor Dr. Bryan Bahn. I currently specialize in deep pressure massage as well as myofascial trigger point release . (A fancy way to say I know how to get rid of the knots in your muscles.)

I think the most proud and rewarding thing is hearing my clients come in with various muscle pains that either minimize or completely leave the body after a few sessions with me. Calls and messages like, “I feel so much better” or “I can sleep again” let me know I’m making a difference. I’m not too sure what sets me apart honestly, I just try to focus on giving my clients my best and catering the massages to their individual needs.

How do you think about happiness?
I find happiness in many things but the first thing that comes to mind is family, no doubt. I have an extremely large family with members from all walks of life, all with their own personalities, all unique in their own way. I love them all in my own special way. Being around family can be so fulfilling and recharging. Almost everything that makes me smile somehow finds its way back to the memories I’ve made with my family.
Traveling, dancing, music, working out and cooking are also what I find myself engaging in to make myself happy or recenter on a bad day. Something about a good song, or a new line dance, trying a new recipe out, or zoning out in the gym helps me blow off steam or helps remind me that you can create your own happiness. You just have to choose to be happy.
