Hi Olajuwon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Olajuwon Akin. I am the founder of TJ BOLA Marketing Agency. In 2007, I started the company as a second job before going full-time in 2021. I graduated with Bsc. in Industrial Design and MBA in Marketing from the University of Houston.
Creatively, I believe it is very influential to freely express your inner talent/skills, fine-tuning your talent(s) so that it feels like fun. And personally, as a person of faith, I believe it’s of great significance to work, pray, and value people. It was great to have the opportunity to work in non-profit organizations for more than eight years. I was able to work with people with different professional backgrounds and cultures.
As a creative designer with in-depth experience, one of the most important attributes you must possess is user diversity; these years gave me just that.
My huge turning point started during the pandemic, and with the sudden adjustment that we all have to make and step up to, it was then that I realized my capabilities. The pandemic stirred up some unknown strength and tenacity you thought you never had. I began to get certified in areas that would significantly improve my profession. One of the few was completing a Leadership Certification from Harvard University.
In January 2021, I decided to give TJ BOLA marketing agency the full-time leap I believe it deserves. And it has been great, and God has been faithful! Few of our clients are currently located here in Houston, Atlanta, Connecticut, Nigeria, Virginia, and Maryland. We provide them with effective marketing and branding, technology-driven, and marketing-relevant integrated communications strategies that enable companies to develop and strengthen their brands. We also offer marketing services to assist all sizes of companies, small and big, profits and non-profits with the best-customized marketing packages, such as Website Design, Digital Marketing, Graphics Design, and Branding Design.
It’s fulfilling to have the ability to apply one of the cores of my faith, valuing people with my professional life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say it’s been encouraging rather than challenging. Learning as you grow, scaling efforts and results, and owning the flexibility to apply ideas and visions can be time-consuming; and remarkably inspiring. It also helps to perfect your skills.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in a religious family and environment filled with business-minded people. My parents were both business people. My mother was probably the first woman to start a publishing company in Nigeria, if not the whole of Africa. She is of a significant influence in my professional life. I have always been into business. At age 13, I started a poultry business, and at the age of 17, I worked as a Junior elementary teacher.
My faith in God and family are an essential part of my life.
