Daily Inspiration: Meet Phoenix Hendrix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phoenix Hendrix.

Hi Phoenix, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m J. Jackson, born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado—an engineer by education, but a creative by calling. My journey through the world of radio and underground music has been anything but conventional, and that’s exactly how I like it.

I was first introduced to the world of radio and television when I was just 14 years old. I got my start on 1490 AM KXRE, a local gospel station, and soon after, I became a teen host on KKTV Channel 11’s Teen Talk during 1991–1992. That early exposure lit a spark in me—a fascination with media, communication, and the power of having a voice that could reach people beyond the room.

Since then, I’ve worn many names behind the mic—Leading Lady, Lady J, Jazzé Jazz, Jazzé Mae, and now Phoenix Hendrix. Each name has reflected a different chapter in my evolution, a new frequency of expression. But throughout every transformation, my mission has remained clear: amplify the underground, celebrate authentic sound, and create space for voices that deserve to be heard.

I officially stepped into Internet radio with 933.com through Fiyah Media Mogul, which laid the foundation for my next ventures. I went on to host shows on CosmicBroadcasting.com, NBC Sports 890 KCEG AM, and KPPF 98.5 Tailgate and Blazin FM in Colorado Springs. Whether on talk radio, sports segments, or music platforms, I brought my love of deep cuts and underground artistry to the forefront every single time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? Not even close. I’ve endured the heartbreak of suddenly losing my oldest sister, father, mother and 19 year old daughter. The frustration of loosing content and segments and station owners. Those personal and professional challenges have made me stronger, more grounded, and deeply connected to my purpose. Professionally, I’ve faced the uphill battle of securing sustainable support for independent segments and community-centered stations—fighting to keep meaningful programming alive in a system that too often favors the commercial over the cultural.

Still, I’ve never wavered. I specialize in curating broadcasts that blend emotion, education, and elevation. I don’t just share music—I tell stories. I’m most proud of building platforms from the ground up, creating shows that speak to people’s souls and honor artists who move through the world without compromise.

What sets me apart is my ability to merge engineering discipline with creative intuition. I build systems, shape soundscapes, and lead with intention. I’ve made a career out of authenticity, and I plan to continue evolving Internet radio into a next-gen streaming experience—one that honors community, amplifies truth, and keeps the underground alive and thriving.

Because in my world, one action, one radio, one voice, just might save one world.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a storyteller at heart, but my tools have always been sound, rhythm, and the power of voice. I work in the space where technology meets culture—engineering platforms, producing broadcasts, and curating content that celebrates the richness of underground music and community-driven narratives.

I specialize in creating radio segments and streaming experiences that focus on independent artists, grassroots voices, and culturally relevant conversations. I don’t just play songs—I build bridges between listeners and artists who deserve to be heard. Whether I’m on the mic, behind the scenes, or developing a new platform, my focus is always on authenticity, impact, and innovation.

I’m known for my bold on-air presence—under many names and monikers—and my deep connection to the underground scene. People tune in because they trust me to deliver something real, something raw, and something they won’t find in the mainstream. I’ve built a reputation for blending technical expertise with creative instinct—whether it’s producing a show, programming a lineup, or holding a conversation that leaves people thinking.

What I’m most proud of is the longevity of my voice and vision. I’ve been in this game since I was 14 years old, and I’ve never stopped showing up. From hosting Teen Talk on KKTV Channel 11 to navigating the world of Internet radio and FM broadcasting, I’ve kept evolving—because the message matters.

What sets me apart is the fact that I don’t treat radio like a trend—I treat it like a calling. I know how to engineer both circuits with soul. My work isn’t just about entertainment; it’s about elevating voices, preserving culture, and building a future where underground artistry isn’t just surviving—it’s thriving.

In every show, in every story, I aim to prove one thing: that when you combine purpose with platform, sound becomes movement.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes, to all the creatives; don’t stop. Shift, change, re direct or repurpose; but never quit. The world needs you and your gift. May you live out your calling.
