Today we’d like to introduce you to Prince King.
Hi Prince, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My Airbnb journey started in Dallas in 2018. I was living outside of Downtown at the time but I wanted a place in the heart of Downtown. I was approved for the new apartment but I wasn’t sure how I was going to pay all the rent. It took me about a month to furnish the space and list it on Airbnb.
As soon as I published it, I received my first booking in 3 minutes. Right then, I knew I was on to something. Then the bookings kept pouring in. It was tough in the beginning because when guests checked in, I had to find somewhere to stay for that day.
Most days I would keep myself busy all day and then stay in the Clubhouse/ Computer room at night. That was my second home since my apartment was rented out everyday. I slept in my car many nights inside my building’s garage until the guest checked out. If I wanted a good night’s sleep, I would rent a Private Room on Airbnb for around $30. I started being booked everyday, so I saved my money and got another unit. I kept saving and scaling up, adding more units.
Fast forward to now, I have 9 units and what I use to make in a year, I make in a month. irbnb gives me the Time Freedom along with the Passive income that I love. Most of my units are in Dallas, but I’ve moved to Houston and have started adding more units here.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not smooth and I had some setbacks on the way. Right before I was getting my second unit, the crane fell on my building in Dallas, which made national news. So I didn’t have access to any of my things for months and I was back down to one unit.
Fast forward to the Pandemic. I had 6 units and they all were booked. Then one day all of my calendars were wiped out by cancellations for full refunds, it was bad. I had to lower the price per night and just deal with it.
I started hosting Traveling nurses and I was able to fill the calendars back in. Then the Winter Storm hit and all the power was out to my units. More refunds, but I had one guest that stuck it out. I can honestly say Hosting on Airbnb is Pandemic Proof. People always need a place to stay.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I knew early on that I didn’t want a 9-5, so I’ve been in the entrepreneurial space for quite some time now. I’ve been in Network Marketing for years for a company called LegalShield (24hr Attorney on your phone), I use to be a Uber/Lyft driver, and I was a Tour Manager for an Oil company. I did anything to not clock in somewhere. Now Airbnb gives me the time freedom which allows me to help other people that want to get started.
I’m an Ambassador for Airbnb as well and have helped 80+ people so far get their first booking. I’ve also hosted over 5,000+ guests since I started. That’s what I’m known for now, all things Airbnb and dropping Gems on Instagram: @princeoking
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I believe service to many gives plenty and I would not be where I am today without the good Lord and all the blessings I’ve received.
I also believe in working harder on yourself, than you do anything else.
If you want to know more about Airbnb or thinking about starting one, please reach out. I’ll be more than happy to assist!
