Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Tate-Study.
Hi Rachel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, my grandmother had a small salon in her house in Louisiana! I would always hang out with her and watch her take care of her clients. Little did I know that I would eventually end up in the Beauty industry!
I Graduated from high school in 1988 and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so I decided to try cosmetology, not knowing where it would go! Almost 35 years later, I’m still living the industry! I worked 20 yrs. in Houston for Urban Retreat, where I did nails at first, then eventually transferred to the makeup department! I eventually became the head makeup artist and department manager as well as the international educator/makeup artist for our own makeup line, Franche cosmetics! Eventually, the spa was sold, and that is when Fabulous Faces by Rachel was created 12yrs ago.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m glad I got my full cosmetology license. It allowed me to try different areas of the business until I found my heart pulling towards makeup and permanent makeup! It’s definitely had its ups and downs over the years! It’s important to find an environment that you can thrive in! If not, make sure you move on! Find your people, which is super important.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started out as a makeup artist but eventually went into permanent makeup! I specialize in keeping it as natural as possible, bringing out a client’s best features! My daughter is a photographer, so we often team up for pictures! I also offer makeup lessons, makeup applications, brow shaping, etc.
Any big plans?
My schedule is crazy busy! My family has owned a Roller-skating rink for the past 47 years, and I am the General manager, so that is my main business! I will continue Fabulous Faces for as long as I can; it’s my happy place, and I enjoy every minute with my clients
