Daily Inspiration: Meet Rebecca McCallum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca McCallum.

Hi Rebecca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in South Florida as a musician throughout my school years. With the obvious signs of there not being any money in music, I decided to take photography classes in college. I definitely fell in love with it but had 0 idea that I could make a living from it. Some encouragement from family friends and businesses. They frequently talked me into giving it a try. “What could it hurt”. So off I went. I assisted, second shot, and shadowed some of the best in the industry. Here I am today 5 years later Running my very own wedding photography business in good old Houston, Texas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life is smooth. If it is, I’m jealous in a weird way. But I blame my success and accomplishments on the hard times. From moving my business across the country, to having my gear stolen at a wedding and recouping from that. No matter the hardship, you can get through it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to think I specialize in weddings. I thrive in chaos, so it allows me to work hard and fix on the fly. I’m known to be small but mighty and can command a crowd like no one’s business. I would also say I’m known for my wide view of the world (definitely a result of being so short) which translates into my photographs. I would say I’m definitely most proud of moving my business across the country and becoming more successful than I have ever been in less than 2 years. I would say my helpful demeanor is something that sets me apart from others. I am there throughout the whole process, kind of like a built-in planner of sorts.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Work hard no matter how hard it gets. You will forever be working hard, and the moment you give up, you lose it all. Even a little success is success.
