Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalin Roche.
Hi Rosalin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for having me. I am a Houston artist. I make handmade one-of-a-kind beaded jewelry. I use semi precious/precious stone, real pearl/shell, and glass beads. I specialize in necklaces and am known for my custom designs. A little bit about how I got started. I began this journey with repairing a broken costume jewelry necklace of my own. My sister had mentioned to me that if I had it in me to design and make some Christmas gifts for her, she would love that. So, I made my first two necklaces, and the feedback was awesome. I enjoyed making the two pieces, so much I decided to continue creating. I’ve always seen magazines and beautiful outfits accented with trendy jewelry. As a teen I loved the trendy looks. As an adult, I love the classic looks. So what better way to have the best of all looks then to create them yourself?! The jewelry I’ve always treasured had a story.
When I create, I imagine a storyline that gives the piece life. I wanted to see the fashion pages come to life in my hands. With the variety you see in my shop you will see variety as though you have turned the page and catch another trend. When I decided to start creating I showed it on social media and the support and feedback was inspiring that is when I put my work on Etsy. After four years I decided it was time to have my own site that was easier to navigate and really featured my work, my personality, and my vision. I have been doing in person markets for two years. I love the in person interaction and my site gives the opportunity for those all over to enjoy my creations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. The challenges have been when I started, not knowing about how to get my name out there and what to do to get my work seen. In person markets make you wonder if you meet the style of the shoppers. You put your heart and soul into making what you think is beautiful and there are days you wonder if anyone notices. The money you spend not only on product but presentation can run you ragged.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ll be branching out to do a wider variety of accessories. I will be doing boot jewelry and am going to try my hand at resin and setting small stones. What sets me apart overall is that I do not have one style, I actually have various options available. So I think the readers should keep an eye out on what I’ll be coming out with, I’m growing in the styles and type of jewelry I offer.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I opened to collaborating with anyone that wants a distinctive design or piece. I welcome the inquiries to my abilities. I preface that if I cannot do something I will be honest. I have enjoyed collaborating with many people and their specific design requests. Telling people about me and my work is always supporting me. I am honored to be mentioned to others. So please, come by a market and meet me, see what I do and if you like it buy it and tell a friend.
