Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Alhadeethi.
Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Design was my passion since day one. I grew up in a house full of books, magazines, and newspapers because my mother is a journalist so I invested my time admiring the covers and layouts of the magazine she worked for. I was passionate about the images, logos, colors and graphics they used. I knew then what I wanted to be when I grew up. I went to university and got a Bachelor’s in software engineering but I knew I’ve always wanted to be a designer so I decided to pursue my dream and I took many certificates and boot camps for graphic design and started to work for a well-known women’s rights magazine in Iraq. After, I moved to the US and was really fascinated by the American style for designing logos, billboards, and ads. I took more certifications in graphic and UX/UI design, now I am a freelance graphic designer and living my dream.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Before coming to the US, I had big dreams. I always saw myself doing great things and being someone in life. When I got here I was faced with reality, It was not a smooth road at all. Everything was an obstacle from the language to finding my dream job. With my faith and perseverance, I started working on myself and I got to where I am now, getting better and better in understanding the market, feeling more confident that I blend in better than before.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known for logo designing, for brands and personal use. My style is minimal and simple because I believe the simplest form of expression can be the deepest. And that’s what a logo design is all about.. I enjoy the challenge in simplifying concepts to abstract. I also design posters, websites, and many related media. I go by Pablo Picasso’s saying: “Everything you can imagine is real” and I see myself as a proud hard working person and a designer that is eager to develop and level up, knowing that the sky is the limit.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The first thing that comes to my mind associated with Houston is the art history it stands for… historical places, museums, murals, and diversity of cultures.
The only thing that I’m not very fond of is the weather.. maybe because I’m not used to it as I used to live in California where there is more stable weather.
