Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalyn.
Hi Shalyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been singing since I could talk and it’s something I have always worked at and loved to do. When I was 16 I started just featuring on songs when requested and doing covers but I never really tried to push myself as an artist until after my freshman year of college. I couldn’t go back to Hampton University due to finances so I spent the entire summer snd my semester off writing and freestyling and from that point on I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, making music and singing any and everywhere I can.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s actually been pretty tough. Some days, I really want to quit just because it can be overwhelming especially because I’m doing all this by myself. No team, No label just me. I was signed at one point but the label I was signed under didn’t value my artistry and ruined alot of my creative process. Being signed to that particular label made my most favorite thing to do something I truly hated at the time. I literally couldn’t write I had writer’s block for about a year. I honestly started to doubt myself but I left our contract and the moment I did that Moon After Moon came about and really changed my life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer and songwriter based in Houston, Texas. I love music, poetry, and writing whether it be a song, a poem, or just a journal entry. One day I hope to be an author of poetry books and also novels. I love books and creating my own would be special. As of right now, music is my main focus. I really want to continue to grow as an artist as well as a writer. There’s so many artists I would love to write for and work with so right now I’m just trying to keep pushing my pen as well as my sound. I have grown so much since I first started out so I can only imagine how amazing I’ll be in the next year or so.
