Daily Inspiration: Meet Silachi Nwogwugwu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Silachi Nwogwugwu.

Hi Silachi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Uwaoma-Silachi Nwogwugwu and I am a Houston-based Intellectual Property & Entertainment (“IP&E”) Attorney. In my three years of practice, I have dealt with a wide variety of IP&E-related matters ranging from the prosecution and litigation of patents, trademarks, and copyrights cases both domestic and international to contract/document drafting, negotiation, and strategy development for artists and mid-sized record labels. My career path has granted me the opportunity to represent a diverse pool of clients such as engineers, surgeons, sculptors, hair stylists, influencers, dancers, musicians, and small business owners looking to adequately protect their interests.

I’m a singer, songwriter, music producer, and audio engineer. I use Logic Pro X which is the goat. My style of music is AfronB or Afro RnB and Lo-Fi. AfronB is like Alte but more RnB. I’ve been making music for years. Started making music back when I was 13 that’s when I produced my first song on my keyboard at home. Then 15, the choir toolmaker had a music lab which a whole bunch of MacBook computers. That’s where I first got out on to GarageBand.

As for singing, I’ve been singing my whole life. Everything really started in High School, though to be honest.

As an artist, I relate to creators and inventors on a personal level — I understand what it means to want to make sure your work product is adequately protected and I know how much effort and emotional energy goes into developing an idea from its conception to an actual tangible product. That emotional connection to the process is imperative to me. Practicing in this field of law not only grants me the opportunity to represent creative thinkers, but also puts me in a position to protect these creators and inventors who rarely have time to maintain and upkeep their IP rights.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yeah, for the most part. My only struggle is with myself. Sec doubt is the biggest struggle in anyone’s journey. But once you ignore the intrusive thoughts, life becomes much easier. When I’m making music, the intrusive thoughts come but I can work through them. It’s like, I can write and play the thoughts away and at the end, I have them recorded on a song and locked away. The more I make music, the less negativity there is in my life. God has been kind to me. I just live life and make music. As long as I’m making music, everything is okay.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an intellectual property attorney and I specialize in patent law (prosecution), copyright law, trademark law, art law, and business litigation.

I’m most known for entertainment law by virtue of my craft.

My experience in this industry sets me apart from my peers.

I’m most proud of my brand as an artist/lawyer. I can understand the artist’s struggle and I try to help them with that understanding.

I want readers to know that I understand what it means to be a struggling artist or an artist trying to make it with little support and I’m here to support as much as I can. The game I give is worth more than you pay, for sure.

What makes you happy?
My wife, my family, my friends, and good music.

They all remind me why life is worth living.
