Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Robyn.
Hi Sofia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to creative expression. As a child growing up in New York, I modeled with an agency and spent much of my free time writing music. Songwriting became an outlet for me early on, and I’ve continued writing songs for as long as I can remember.
As I got older, my focus shifted toward other goals. I joined the United States Marine Corps, an experience that challenged me, shaped me, and taught me resilience. While modeling took a back seat during that chapter of my life, music never really left me. No matter what I was doing, I was always writing.
In 2019, I moved to Houston and began building a new life here. I attended the University of Houston, where I earned my degree while balancing work, motherhood, and other responsibilities. Throughout those years, songwriting remained a constant. I’ve written hundreds of songs over the years that never saw the light of day, creating simply because I loved it rather than with the intention of sharing it.
Everything changed this year when I finally decided to take a chance on myself. After years of keeping my music private, I recorded and released my first single. It was a surreal and full-circle moment to share something I’d been working toward for so long. Around the same time, I began pursuing modeling again, reconnecting with a passion I’d had since childhood.
Houston has played a huge role in that journey. The city has shown me so much love over the years, but especially within the last year as I’ve stepped more fully into the creative community. I think that’s partly because I’ve made a greater effort to pour into the city as well—supporting local creatives, collaborating with other artists, and building genuine connections. What started as a place I moved to for a fresh start has become a community that continues to encourage and inspire me.
Today, I’m pursuing both music and modeling while continuing to grow as an artist. Releasing my first song taught me that sometimes the biggest risk is allowing yourself to be seen, and I’m excited to see where that journey takes me next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not. I think one of the biggest challenges has been learning to trust myself enough to share my work. I’ve been writing music for most of my life and have written hundreds of songs over the years, but for a long time they lived only in my notes and voice memos. Putting something you’ve created out into the world can be incredibly vulnerable, and fear of judgment kept me from taking that step for years.
There were also seasons where creative pursuits had to take a back seat. Between serving in the Marine Corps, earning my degree, working, and becoming a mother, there were times when survival and responsibility naturally came before passion projects. Even so, I never stopped creating.
Looking back, I don’t see those detours as setbacks. They gave me life experiences that shaped both who I am and the stories I tell through my music. If anything, the biggest lesson has been realizing that there is never a perfect time to go after something you love. Sometimes you just have to take the leap before you feel completely ready, and that’s exactly what releasing my first single taught me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Today, my focus is primarily on music and modeling. As a singer-songwriter, I create music that is honest, emotional, and rooted in real experiences. I’m drawn to songs that make people feel seen, and I think that authenticity is what I want people to connect with most.
On the modeling side, I enjoy collaborating with brands and creatives to bring ideas to life. Houston has introduced me to an incredible creative community, and I’ve been fortunate to work with talented photographers, designers, artists, and business owners throughout the city.
What I’m most proud of is finally stepping outside of my comfort zone and sharing my work publicly. Creativity can be a vulnerable thing, and choosing to put yourself out there takes a level of confidence that I spent years building.
I think what sets me apart is the perspective I bring to my work. My experiences in life as a woman, a mother, the military, really everything outside of the entertainment industry have given me a deeper appreciation for connection, resilience, and authenticity. Those experiences influence everything I create and keep me grounded as I continue to grow.
At the end of the day, I hope people know me as someone who creates from a genuine place and isn’t afraid to evolve. I’m still at the beginning of this journey, and that’s what makes it exciting
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that there is no perfect time to start.
For a long time, I thought I needed to have everything figured out before pursuing certain goals. I thought I needed more experience, more confidence, more certainty. What I’ve learned is that growth happens because you’re willing to start before you feel completely ready.
I’ve also learned that every chapter of life has value, even the ones that don’t seem connected at the time. The experiences I’ve had have all shaped the way I see the world and the way I connect with people. None of those experiences were detours—they were part of the journey.
More than anything, I’ve learned to trust myself. Not every opportunity will work out the way you expect, and not everyone will understand your vision, but if you stay true to who you are and keep showing up, the right people and opportunities tend to find their way to you.
