Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Nevets.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2009, I beat cancer.
Inspired by that journey, I share my story through the lens of my eyes and lived experiences, blending truth with a fantasy backdrop to spark imagination, inspire hope, and ignite creativity in the mind.
My journey as an author began long before I ever published a book. In 2009, I was diagnosed with ocular melanoma, a rare form of eye cancer. Beating cancer changed the way I viewed life and inspired me to tell a story that blended my real-life experiences with the limitless possibilities of fantasy.
Writing became a creative outlet and a way to transform one of the most challenging periods of my life into something meaningful. That journey led to my debut novel, The Midway Conflict: Hour 1, the first book in a planned trilogy. Since its publication, the novel has received international recognition in the fantasy category, and I’ve had the opportunity to connect with readers through book festivals, signings, interviews, and social media.
Alongside my career in product management, I continue to write, grow my audience, and work on the next books in the series. My goal is to create stories that entertain while encouraging readers to see that even life’s greatest challenges can become the foundation for something extraordinary.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Overcoming eye cancer in 2009 was the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced, and it changed my perspective on life forever. Writing the book brought its own obstacles as well. Balancing a full-time career, family responsibilities, and the commitment to writing required discipline, patience, and countless late nights.
Publishing was another learning experience. From editing and cover design to marketing and building an audience, I quickly realized that being an author means wearing many hats. There were moments of doubt and setbacks, but each challenge became an opportunity to learn and improve.
Looking back, every obstacle has made the journey more meaningful. The struggles shaped both me and my story, and they continue to motivate me to keep writing, connecting with readers, and proving that perseverance can turn adversity into something lasting and inspiring.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an award-winning fantasy author, cancer survivor, and product management professional. I specialize in creating stories that blend real-life experiences with imaginative fantasy, allowing readers to escape into a new world while connecting with authentic human emotions and challenges.
I’m best known for The Midway Conflict: Hour 1, the first novel in my trilogy. The story was inspired by my journey overcoming ocular melanoma in 2009 and explores resilience, hope, and perseverance through an epic fantasy adventure. Rather than writing a traditional memoir, I chose to tell my story through the lens of fantasy, inviting readers to discover deeper meanings while enjoying an immersive world.
What I’m most proud of is transforming one of the hardest experiences of my life into something that inspires others. Receiving international recognition for my debut novel has been incredibly rewarding, but the greatest accomplishment is hearing from readers who found hope, encouragement, or a new perspective through my work.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge lived experience with imagination. My background in product management gives me a structured approach to world-building and storytelling, while my personal journey gives every page authenticity and heart. I don’t just create fantasy worlds—I create stories with purpose, where readers can lose themselves in adventure while finding pieces of their own journey along the way.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m always looking for ways to grow, both personally and professionally. As an author, I enjoy reading across a variety of genres because every book teaches something new about storytelling, character development, or world-building. I also follow successful authors and creators to learn how they connect with readers and build meaningful communities.
Professionally, my background in product management has taught me the value of continuous learning. I am always exploring tools for visual design and marketing, and productivity platforms to stay organized while balancing my career and writing.
Beyond technology, one of my greatest resources has been my own life experiences. Surviving cancer gave me a different perspective on resilience, gratitude, and purpose. Those experiences influence not only how I write but also how I approach challenges, relationships, and opportunities. I believe that staying curious, embracing lifelong learning, and finding inspiration in everyday life are the resources that help me do my best, both as an author and as a person.
