Daily Inspiration: Meet Tam Curl-Grimes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tam Curl-Grimes.

Hi Tam, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
By day, I’m an accountant, and by night, I’m an entrepreneur. I’ve always been a positive, outgoing, and motivational person, which recently led me to an exciting new venture as an app designer. I had this wild idea to create an app for children, providing them with positive tools to help navigate life’s journey.

The inspiration for this idea came from my own career shift—from accountant to teacher. Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of becoming a teacher, and in 2017, after passing my certification on my third attempt, I finally achieved that goal. Although I taught for only two years, those years offered me valuable insights into what our children truly needed, which was guidance in learning their self-love, self-awareness, and self-discipline,

As a first-time teacher, I was placed in a classroom with SPED students, despite lacking the background to support their needs. I was told to manage as best I could on my own unless the students were fighting, and to be honest, it became overwhelming. Ultimately, I made the difficult decision to resign.

In addition to the children’s app, I felt inspired to create an affirmations app for adults as well. I realized that, as an adult, I sometimes need help staying motivated, so I wanted to encourage and support others in finding reassurance in who they are, whose they are, and what they can become.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
During my time of starting my business, I had several challenges such as fear, procrastination, depression, I fell and injured my knee and death in the family. I lost my biological father and stepfather in the same year. They passed away six weeks apart from each other, so that really put me in a different headspace. I had to climb out of that depression and try to stay strong for my mom and the rest of the family. It was hard but I made it through, and I am still making it through with God’s strength, daily prayer and affirmations, and also a positive attitude and grateful heart.

During these obstacles, I had to remind myself that I was more than a conqueror, that I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me, and I knew that trouble didn’t last always.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work as a Fixed Assets Accountant at an oil and gas company.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I have recently started listening to audiobooks and I love Tabitha Browns book ‘I Did a New Thing’ and also ‘Believe IT’ by Jamie Kern Lima. Jamie’s book actually helped me get back motivated to finally publish my children’s app DEC-2024 and the adults affirmations app in JAN-2025

Currently my favorite app is the I Am app. This app actually inspired me to create my own affirmations app for adults. I love listening to this app in the mornings as it helps me get the day started with positive energy and good vibes.
