Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamisha Dew.
Hi Tamisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN. I started my business in 2019 at the age of 21. I became a mother to my beautiful bundle of joy, Kali ‘Lynn. In the process of becoming her mom, I decided to create a hairline in dedication to her.
My entrepreneurial mindset led me to being the CEO and Founder of KK’s Crown Collection. Although my company was established in Indianapolis, IN after just 9 months of our launching and Kali’s birth, we moved to Phoenix, AZ for just one year. After that one year, God then led us to Houston, Texas and we are going on our 3rd year here!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The word smooth is the last word I would use to describe any true authentic road of a person’s story, because no matter who you are or where you come from, we all have/face obstacles and challenges. Whether we are discussing the journey of life or we’re discussing the journey of entrepreneurship you can most definitely count on it being every bit of a struggle! The struggle of entrepreneurship comes from me doing something that my heart is telling me to do, but I have no blueprint to achieve success in the path I’m choosing to walk.
Having a vivid image of the life I want for my daughter and me, but not know at all how I’m going to get there. With this business I started in 2019, I’ve faced so many challenges from not being able to afford my inventory, not having the exposure, not knowing how to properly market, or even truly knowing how to run a business. The things running a business actually come with that people don’t mention behind the scene. All you think before you start is, I’m working for myself, I’m selling this and I’m going to be making money… It’s so much more specific than just those things, but until you dive in, how could you even know?
I’ve relaunched my business 3 times since starting it and truthfully, it was necessary for me. Each relaunch came with a different form of growth that the previous version didn’t have! I am grateful for my obstacles, because each new challenge that I get past, brings out a better version of me!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a child of God, I am a mother, I am an entrepreneur and I am an influencer. I specialize in all of those things. First of trusting God, surrendering myself completely unto him in order for my steps to be guided, in order for my intuition to never fail me! Secondly being a mom to my amazing, precious, gifted, sweet, intelligent baby girl, Kali Lynn’ Jackson.
She’s such a blessing, she is a gift. directly from God, he definitely knew what I needed it! The older she gets and the older I get, the reason behind me having her get more and more clear. I’m grateful for the extreme level of ambition that she brought out of me, and the motivation she gives me to get up when I, honestly, sometimes don’t see how I can! She’s the purpose behind the KK in KK’s Crown Collection, she is the brand! Next, being an entrepreneur is truly amazing once you get the hang of it! It is a blessing to not have to sacrifice memorable moments just because I have to work. I thank God for the freedom it brings me, and also the consistency it brings in keeping me busy.
No day is the same, they are all different and I’m just grateful for God allowing me to be removed from the loop of repetitively doing the same thing over and over because I was for sure there once before! Lastly, making an influence. This is probably the absolute best thing there is because it includes all the other titles in one! Being known for being a firm believer and disciple of God, inspiring people to be confident in motherhood, especially at a young age, running a business, and doing my best to maintain it no matter how hard it gets. Pick it back up and do it as many times as you need to until you feel like you’ve finally got it right!
What sets me apart? Being true to myself. My authenticity is what has always made people gravitate towards me my entire life! Not pretending to have it all together, but passionately admitting that I am diligently trying to figure it out. Which we all are, right? Trying to figure out this thing called life…being real and relatable is what separates us all from one another. Because no one could ever be you..better than you! And you could never be anyone else, better than you can be yourself!
What matters most to you? Why?
Having genuine people around me is what matters to me. The reason why that matters most to me is because, no matter what you do in life, how you want to live, or where you see yourself, the people around you can either make you or break you.
They’re either going to amplify and push or distract and discourage. I know that I am a very genuine person, and I know the kind of faith and energy I can bring to any relationship, thats why it is so important for the people around me to be nothing less than the same.
