Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Luna.
Hi Taylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I was working at a warehouse hating every day and wishing I could do more with my life. My first warehouse job was fun, but I felt like I could have done more. I started to paint again, and everyone at my job was super supportive! They bought my paintings and pushed me to do more with it. I was scared, so I didn’t fall into my passion and went to another warehouse. Everyone there was just as supportive and gave me the motivation to really go after what I love, so I decided to quit and work with my mentor Robert Hodge! He helped me see the light and energy behind art and how much love and care goes into every work on such a creative level! I’m so blessed to have everyone in my life! Of course, my family was right by my side every step of the way, too, so shout out to them! Love everyone to the core!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road towards your passion is always difficult. If it was easy, everyone would do it, but those roadblocks help push you into growth and help give your art the personality it needs to flourish. I feel as if the biggest struggle with artist is themselves. The confidence to show your work and love who you are for what you feel and create can be difficult to fully accept for some. Over time though, you meet those people who help give you that confidence, and you learn so much, so at the end of the day, those roadblock are the best part of being an artist, as hard as they can be.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work mostly with collages as of now. I always try out new mediums and see how far I can push the idea of what my art is! I make collages about the constructs of society; I litter my mixed media pieces with metaphors and symbols that explain my feelings towards these ideas we have. I love my collages because it helps me grow and see where I’m at in myself reflation as both an artist and a human living through life.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Honestly, all I can say for this is just go out there and be yourself; the people you want around you will be attracted to who you really are. Don’t be scared to introduce yourself and let them know what you do and how much you love your craft. The more you love yourself and your craft the more real people will see you and respect you for who you are and what you do! Patience, you gotta have it, and persistence! Don’t be scared to reach out once you meet them, and just be nice and show love/respect for one another! It goes a long way!
