Daily Inspiration: Meet Tempest Styles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tempest Styles.

Hi Tempest, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started writing music at the age of 7, totally inspired by my father who gave well-known people like funk master flex a lead way to who they are now. He did amazing things with his talent and I admired that completely. I started recording professionally at the age of 15 and plan to keep growing. My goal is to leave a footprint in the sands of time, or like my father would say, “make waves in the world.”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, I definitely think it’s been challenging, but I love the challenge. I think females in anything that they do have to really prove themselves.

Even in this era where we have a lot of dope female artists in the mainstream and underground, we’re still having to demand respect, and mark our places. I think the biggest struggle for me is putting myself out there, and staying focused on the fans I have versus the fans I would like to have. It’s easy to be disappointed when you see the people that you actually know, or your family not supporting you, but getting that same support from people that don’t even know you, for me, is the best thing ever. That is what makes the challenges I face on the daily basis as an independent artist so beautiful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hip-hop artist from the Bronx. I see myself as someone who stays true to myself and values myself no matter what. I believe that being genuine and sincere in my songs makes them go so hard! I’m most proud of the supporters I have, and the love that I receive from them.

The longer I stay on this journey the more I see the beauty in the things I do. Overall I am a businesswoman so it’s more of the money than the fame for me, but all in all, I just plan to make waves in the world like my father said I would.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I remember being a little girl just writing a lot.

I wrote poetry, songs, raps, scripts, and pretty much anything and everything. I just remember always being in my little zone whether it was in my backyard inside some bamboo or in the bathroom. For some reason, those were my favorite places to be when I wrote.
